Job description

Senior R amp;D Embedded Design Engineer
Purpose
Independently capable of leading and executing multiple product development projects with no supervision, including efforts that require integration of mixed-signal, microprocessor-based, and/or FPGA-based hardware subsystems. Responsibilities also include contributing to algorithm development and conducting encryption research.
Summary
A significant portion of the employee’s role will involve researching emerging technologies and applying those insights to the development of new products and systems. With a strong background in engineering and product development, they are adept at solving diverse technical challenges quickly and effectively. As a Senior Embedded Design Engineer, they are expected to lead and mentor junior engineers, oversee co-op projects, plan and drive strategic initiatives, collaborate with production teams, and assume management responsibilities when needed. Their experience spans the full product life cycle, product reliability, consumer electronics, and a wide range of microprocessor-based systems.
Duties Critical to Success
  • Lead the development of R amp;D products, systems, and initiatives
  • Design and implement desktop or mobile applications for engineering analysis and customized production tools
  • Train and mentor employees in reverse engineering techniques and procedures
  • Manage co-ops to develop new production support tools
  • Develop and leverage reverse engineering tools/procedures to identify key functions and processes in various integrated circuits, board-level systems, and embedded software systems
  • Lead team problem-solving and project planning activities
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Critical to Success
  • Proficiency in the design, analysis, and implementation of communications systems in Radio Frequency (RF) devices, and/or common automotive data buses
  • Expertise in schematic capture and PCB layout for internally used and production products
  • Experience with development of reverse engineering processes and procedures
  • Strong background in embedded system software architecture and development
  • Experience in serial communication protocols e.g. I2C, SPI, UART etc.
  • Knowledge of cryptography, including stream and block ciphers and hashing algorithms
  • Logic design experience, preferably including an understanding of VHDL or Verilog modeling
  • Ability to design and develop test/programming fixtures, including required hardware/software interfaces
  • Experience applying artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques to embedded systems, algorithm development, test automation, and system optimization
  • Ability to lead multiple projects from conception to completion, as well as mentor others
Deliverables
  • RKE/PKE systems for a wide range of vehicles, contributing to multiple concurrent product designs
  • Work directly with an IP attorney to disclose and file patents
  • Hardware or software tools for advanced signal or behavioral analysis using analog and/or digital subsystems
  • Production test fixtures to support our internal production line as needed

Job specifications, standards, and requirements
  • BS/MS degrees in electrical, electronics, or computer engineering. At least 7 years of industry experience that demonstrates success delivering embedded projects
  • Mixed-signal design and analysis skills (board or ASIC level)
  • Experience in qualifying products through all phases of FCC certification
  • C, C++, Python, or Labview software development experience
  • Experience on a broad range of computing platforms
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills

  • Ability to operate lab equipment as needed for purposes such as prototype testing and quality assurance
