Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant (MA) supports healthcare providers by assisting with patient examinations, treatments, and procedures under the supervision of a physician, midlevel provider, or registered nurse. The MA performs a combination of clinical and administrative duties to ensure efficient patient flow, enhance patient experience, and maintain the overall functionality of the practice.
CORE ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform phlebotomy, assist with lab procedures, and support patient intake, exams, and rooming.
  • Assist providers during procedures, prepare lab specimens, perform in-office tests, administer medications, and manage refills as directed.
  • Escort patients, measure and document vital signs, update medications, place lab orders, and print requisitions.
  • Ensure all labs, reports, and patient information are available prior to appointments; obtain missing results from lab portals.
  • Provide patient instructions, maintain stocked exam rooms, sterilize instruments, and coordinate equipment maintenance.
  • Communicate patient readiness and clinical updates to providers; triage calls and messages efficiently.
  • Perform genetic blood tests, complete required documentation, and assist with chart reviews, audits, and reporting.
  • Perform other administrative, clinical, and patient care-related duties as assigned to support efficient clinic operations, including assisting with special projects, managing patient flow, and ensuring the accuracy of patient records.
Requirements
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate from an accredited medical assisting school required.
  • Minimum two years' experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSE OR REGISTRATION
  • Medical Assistant Certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant Certification through the American Medical Technologists (AMT) required.
  • BLS Certification required within 30 days of hire.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS OR ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of caring for the acute and chronically ill patient.
  • Knowledge of hemodynamics.
  • Ability to work in an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and chemo order entry software.
