Job description

The Freelance Production Manager plays a critical role in supporting daily studio operations, ensuring seamless execution across multiple studios and control rooms. This position serves as a central point of coordination between production, operations, engineering, and support teams in a fast-paced live television environment. 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee operational workflows for multiple studio and control room crews 
  • Act as a primary liaison between Operations, Production, Facilities, Assignment Desk, and Marketing teams 
  • Collaborate closely with Talent, Producers, Directors, and technical staff to communicate updates and resolve issues in real time 
  • Partner with Engineering teams to ensure rapid resolution of technical challenges 
  • Support production teams in executing creative elements (props, VIP guests, special segments) 
  • Manage and oversee daily studio set changes across multiple spaces 
  • Assist with crew scheduling, including development of Studio Crew Break Sheets 
  • Mentor and train new Operations team members on processes and best practices 
  • Maintain a strong focus on organization, execution, and follow-through in a live production setting 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • 5-10 years of experience in sports or live television operations required 
  • Experience managing teams or workforces in a production or operational environment 
  • Strong understanding of live and pre-recorded studio production workflows 
  • Knowledge of baseball and hockey strongly preferred
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong multitasking ability
  • Proven leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and maintain accountability
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a calm, decisive approach under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt in fast-paced, breaking news environments
  • High level of professionalism, tact, and diplomacy
  • Passion for operations, logistics, and production excellence
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate and solve challenges
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Strong follow-up skills and commitment to execution
  • Experience with Media Pulse or similar production systems is a plus 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Media, Television/Film Production or related field preferred 

Position Reports to:

  • Director, Studio Operations & Scheduling

Pay Range: $480/day

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related aspects of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, skills, and any other factors MLB Network considers relevant to the hiring decision.
