Sr. Network Infrastructure Architect

Vanguard's Global Technology Office (GTO) is seeking a Sr. Network Infrastructure Architect to provide enterpriselevel architectural leadership across core network and telecommunications infrastructure and services. This role serves as a senior technical authority responsible for shaping longterm network infrastructure strategy, defining connectivity across application, campus and datacenter network domains.

This position operates as a deep technical architecture leader within GTO-partnering with platform engineering, security, operations, and enterprise architecture to ensure network solutions are scalable, resilient, secure, and aligned to Vanguard's strategic objectives.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provides the architectural leadership in shaping long-term strategic infrastructure technology programs and planning.
  • Leverages deep technical knowledge through subscription research services and critical resources for related knowledge capital, inclusive of blogs, podcasts, and webinars. Attends conferences and engages in associated activities.
  • Drives the design, planning, definition development of technology roadmaps, defines reference and implementation architectures, and develops proof-of-concept prototypes and initial implementation models.
  • Ensures implementation of complex solutions support architecture objectives (availability, scalability, performance, security, etc.), as appropriate. Monitors implementation activities to ensure architecture and design principles are upheld.
  • Participates in governance discussions and provides expertise to support critical decision-making, while utilizing advanced leadership skills especially in the areas of persuasion, influence, conceptualizing solutions and problem solving.
  • Provides expertise and communicates complicated technical concepts effectively to a broad group of stakeholders. Oversees enterprise-wide projects and initiatives and ensures implementation activities uphold architecture and design principles.
  • Establishes relationships with IT leaders, architects, and technical specialists. Partners with senior management and specialists in advancing proposed architectural solutions and ensuring availability of infrastructure technologies and support.
  • Provides thought leadership on the competitive landscape and corporate and business unit strategies to provide context for architectural decision making.
  • Manages projects and mitigates risks of introducing architecture technology enhancements, ensures best practices are followed and that IT project teams comply with IT Governance policies and procedures.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Serves as the principal expert and authoritative voice on infrastructure architecture, influencing enterprise standards, policies, and strategic technology directions.
  • Drives strategic analysis of integration, compatibility, and performance targets across multi-platform environments.
  • Leads the development and evolution of enterprise-level infrastructure architecture frameworks by mapping interdependencies across IT systems, platforms, and transmission networks.
  • Evaluates infrastructure design alternatives with a focus on enterprise-wide scalability, resilience, total cost of ownership (TCO), and long-term return on investment (ROI).

What it takes:

  • Minimum 12 years of relevant experience, with at least 8 years in progressively senior network infrastructure architecture roles.

  • Bachelors in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, or a related engineering field. M.Tech, M.S., MBA in Technology Management, strongly preferred.

  • Proven experience in enterprise-scale IT transformation initiatives, architecture governance, and infrastructure modernization.

  • Demonstrated leadership in defining and implementing strategic infrastructure technology roadmaps and standards across complex global environments.

  • Deep expertise in architectural risk mitigation, IT policy compliance, and cross-functional stakeholder alignment.

  • Strong ability to influence executive leadership and steer architecture decisions at the enterprise level.
