PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

  • Interact in an honest, trustworthy, and respectful manner with employees, Tribal members, visitors, and vendors.
  • Participate in departmental staff meetings, quality management activities and educational programs.
  • Comply with Lumbee Tribe’s policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a current insurable driver’s license.

POSITION PURPOSE
This responsibility supports the Pool Manager.  Duties for this job assignment will include tasks listed in the “Specific Duties and Responsibilities” section of this job description.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS, & RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Attends to the daily operation of aquatic facilities including opening and closing duties and supervises Lifeguards when necessary.
  2. Responsible for staff supervision, facility operation, and for assigning personnel employee duties.
  3. Provides excellent customer service by responding to customers' questions and needs.
  4. Regulates and monitors water chemistry in the pool; maintains chemical inventory; and maintains equipment and supplies.
  5. Ensures the safety of the facility users by following state and local safety regulations.  
  6. Incumbent must enforce safety guidelines that are consistent with departmental policies.  
  7. Keeps supervisor informed regarding safety related issues.
  8. Completes various reports and submits them to the Pool Manager.
  9. Cleans/clears debris from pool based on scheduled developed with Pool Manager.
  10. Cleans restrooms based on schedule developed with Pool Manager.
  11. Must work special events as assigned.
  12. Required to report for work punctually, work all scheduled hours, and any required overtime as deemed necessary by Pool Manager. 
  13. Must maintain physical condition necessary for the proper performance of assigned duties. 
  14. Position includes morning, evening, weekend and holiday hours.
  15. Complete other duties as assigned. 
 
MINIMUM MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:
  • Three to six month previous experience working in an aquatic setting. 
  • Lifeguard certification 
  • ARC, Water Safety Instructor, WSI certification – preferred, not required 
  • Current certification in American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED/FPR 
Education:
  • Must be at least 18 years old and possess a High school diploma or GED. 
Mandatory Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Qualifications:
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies. 
  • Good decision-maker. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to provide leadership, command the respect of aquatics staff and guests, and be able to delegate duties when needed.
  • Must have a current valid driver's license and have a good driving record.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative to those an employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job. Normal office conditions exist, and the noise level in the work environment can vary from low to moderate. Limited overnight travel may be required from time to time.
Physical demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the primary functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, talk, hear and perform repetitive motions. There may be prolonged periods of sitting, keyboarding, reading, as well as driving or riding in transport vehicles. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include reading, distance, computer, and color vision. Talking and hearing are essential to communicate with clients, vendors, and staff.
Mental demands:
There are a number of deadlines associated with this position. The employee must be able to handle frequent interruptions and must also multi-task and interact with a wider variety of people on various and, at times, complicated issues.

The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina has implemented an Indian Preference in Employment Policy. Pursuant to this Policy, applicants who possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required by this position, and who are members of the Lumbee Tribe will be given primary preference for hiring and employment after providing proof of tribal membership. Indian preference is integrated into the interview and scoring process for candidates for job positions.

Background Investigation:
