What is the difference between Ltl Agent vs Freight Coordinator?

AspectLtl AgentFreight Coordinator
CredentialsHigh school diploma, freight shipping certificationsHigh school diploma, logistics or supply chain certifications
Work EnvironmentFreight terminals, shipping officesOffice settings, logistics departments
Industry UsageCommonly used in freight and trucking companiesUsed across logistics, supply chain, and transportation firms
Job FocusArranging LTL shipments, managing freight pickups and deliveriesCoordinating shipments, tracking freight, communicating with carriers

While both roles involve managing freight shipments, an Ltl Agent primarily focuses on arranging Less Than Truckload (LTL) shipments and working directly with freight carriers. A Freight Coordinator handles broader logistics tasks, including tracking shipments and coordinating across multiple transportation modes. Both roles require logistics knowledge and communication skills, but the Ltl Agent is more specialized in LTL freight operations.

How do I get into a less-than-truckload agent?

To become a less-than-truckload (LTL) agent, you typically need a high school diploma or equivalent, strong organizational skills, and knowledge of freight shipping procedures. Gaining experience in logistics, transportation, or customer service can be beneficial, and familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS) is often preferred.

Job Description

This is a remote position. LTL Operations Specialist (Remote) About the job ARS Logistics (Authorized Agent of Trinity Logistics) is a family owned and operated Third Party Logistics company with 20+ years of history. We are proud of what we have built through strong and lasting relationships with our customers and team members. The LTL Operations Specialist is responsible for delivering operationally excellent transportation services within our less-than-truckload (LTL) division. This role manages the day-to-day execution of LTL shipments, serving as the key link between carriers, internal stakeholders, and customer representatives. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, solutions-driven, and thrives in a fast-paced logistics environment. Start Date: ASAP Why you'll like working here • Direct impact — you own the LTL outcome for our customers, and the team relies on your judgment. • Real problem-solving — reclasses, reweighs, OS&D, missed pickups; no two days are the same. • Collaborative team — a supportive group of logistics professionals who value open communication and follow-through. • Structured upward mobility — clear growth path within the company as the LTL division scales.

What you'll do • Track and trace LTL and common-carrier shipments from booking through delivery; proactively identify and communicate exceptions, delays and service failures before the customer has to ask. • Review LTL invoices and freight bills for discrepancies (reweighs, reclasses, accessorials, duplicate billing) and advise the customer service and account management teams on billing exceptions, disputes and resolution. • Guide customer-facing teams on proper LTL order construction — freight class (NMFC), packaging, dimensions, weight and carrier selection — to optimize cost, service and compliance. • Coordinate with LTL carriers on overages, shortages and damages (OS&D) and manage freight claims through to resolution on behalf of our customers and the company. • Monitor LTL carrier performance — on-time %, exception rates and service trends — and report findings to management. • Maintain accurate, timely data in the TMS; identify efficiency, cost-saving and process improvements and help implement them. • Support general LTL operations as needed: system updates, reporting, customer-facing documentation and rate analysis.

What you need to bring • 2+ years of hands-on LTL experience at a freight brokerage / 3PL or an LTL carrier (customer service, operations, billing or claims). • Working knowledge of NMFC freight classification, density-based pricing, accessorials and how to read an LTL freight bill. • Experience with a brokerage TMS and LTL carrier portals (booking, tracking, documents, disputes). • Clear, professional written and spoken English — you will be corresponding with U.S. carriers and customers daily. • Detail-oriented, accurate and efficient; able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment with dependability and initiative. • Reliable remote setup: backup power, backup internet, backup computer, and 2 to 3 screens. • Availability during core U.S. Eastern business hours (see engagement details).

Preference given to • Prior experience working for or with a third party logistics company • Experience filing and winning LTL freight claims (Carmack, concealed damage, OS&D documentation). • Familiarity with CRM and business-intelligence / reporting tools. • Experience working with distributed, remote teams across time zones.

Engagement details • Engagement type: Remote independent contractor. Open to qualified candidates in any country. • Core availability: Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM U.S. Eastern (1-hour lunch). • Compensation: 60,000 - 80,000 PHP per month , based on experience, with a structured growth plan. • Time off: 15 paid business days per calendar year after 90 days, per contract structure. • Reports to: Operations Manager. • Travel: None.

Requirements • 2+ years LTL experience at a U.S. freight brokerage / 3PL or LTL carrier (ops, billing, or claims). • Solid knowledge of NMFC classification and how to read an LTL freight bill. • Experience with a brokerage TMS and LTL carrier portals. • Excellent written and spoken English; detail-oriented and dependable. • Backup power, backup internet, backup computer, 2–3 monitors. • Available Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM U.S. Eastern.

Benefits Benefits: 55,000 - 80,000 PHP depending on experience
