What is an LPN Med Tech?

An LPN Med Tech, or Licensed Practical Nurse Medication Technician, is a healthcare professional who is licensed as an LPN and trained to administer medications to patients in various healthcare settings, such as nursing homes or assisted living facilities. They are responsible for providing basic nursing care, monitoring patient health, and ensuring that medications are administered safely and accurately according to physicians’ orders. LPN Med Techs also document medication administration, observe for side effects, and report any concerns to a supervising nurse or physician. Their role is crucial in supporting patient care and the efficient operation of healthcare teams.

How does an LPN Med Tech typically collaborate with other healthcare team members during a shift?

As an LPN Med Tech, collaboration with nurses, physicians, certified nursing assistants, and pharmacists is a key part of the role. You’ll be responsible for communicating patient medication needs, reporting changes in patient conditions, and ensuring accurate documentation. Teamwork is essential, as you may assist with patient care tasks, coordinate medication administration schedules, and participate in interdisciplinary meetings to discuss patient care plans. Effective communication and a cooperative approach help ensure safe, efficient, and compassionate care for patients.
