What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an LPG Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an LPG Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical or chemical engineering, with relevant qualifications such as a degree or diploma and certifications in LPG handling and safety. Familiarity with industry-standard tools, gas detection systems, and regulatory compliance software is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help you excel in both technical and customer-facing aspects of the role. These skills are crucial to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operation of LPG systems, minimizing risks and maintaining service quality.

What are some common challenges faced by LPG Engineers when working on site installations, and how can they be addressed?

LPG Engineers often encounter challenges such as ensuring strict compliance with safety regulations, coordinating with multiple stakeholders (like contractors and clients), and adapting to varying site conditions. Addressing these challenges requires thorough planning, clear communication, and staying updated on safety standards. Regular training, attention to detail, and proactive problem-solving help ensure installations meet both legal and client requirements while minimizing risks.

What are LPG Engineers?

LPG Engineers are specialized professionals who install, maintain, and repair systems that use liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), such as heating, cooking, and industrial equipment. They ensure that LPG systems operate safely and efficiently, adhering to stringent safety standards and regulations. Their work often involves inspecting gas appliances, detecting and repairing leaks, and advising clients on the safe use of LPG. LPG Engineers are typically certified and must keep their knowledge up to date with changing industry standards.

What engineers make $500,000 a year?

Highly experienced engineers in specialized fields such as petroleum, aerospace, or software engineering can earn $500,000 or more annually, often through a combination of base salary, bonuses, and stock options. These roles typically require advanced skills, certifications, and work in high-demand industries or leadership positions.

Which engineers make $100,000?

Senior LPG engineers with extensive experience, specialized skills, and certifications can earn $100,000 or more annually. Factors such as location, industry sector, and company size also influence salary levels for engineering roles in the LPG industry.

What is the difference between Lpg Engineer vs Gas Engineer?

CertificationsGas Safe Register, LPG-specific trainingGas Safe Register, general gas safety training
Work EnvironmentInstallation, maintenance, and repair of LPG systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settingsInstallation, maintenance, and repair of natural gas and LPG systems in similar environments
Industry UsagePrimarily in LPG-specific projects and systems

In summary, while both Lpg Engineers and Gas Engineers work with gas systems and require Gas Safe registration, Lpg Engineers specialize in LPG-specific installations and maintenance, whereas Gas Engineers handle a broader range of natural gas and LPG systems. The roles often overlap, but Lpg Engineers focus more on LPG-related projects.

Industrial & Commercial Manager - Type B & LPG Installations

Origin Energy Services Ltd

Full-time

Posted 27 days ago

Job description

  • Lead and unify Origin's national Type B gas fitting process
  • Be the Authorisation Holder driving 100% compliance across states
  • Build capability and grow a specialist industrial function

Grow where you matter most

At Origin, being All Kinds of Useful starts with people like you, the ones showing up every day to make a difference for our customers. As we expand the way that we serve Australians – including providing internet, new products, and more to come – your next challenge could be closer than you think right here at Origin.

About the Role

Reporting to the National Customer Solutions Manager, this role leads and manages Origin’s national Type B gas fitting process and LPG tank installations

Within LPG Operations our Customer Solutions team ensures Origin and customer-owned assets are installed, maintained and operated safely, efficiently and compliantly across industrial and commercial sites. This is an opportunity to step in to a specialist leadership role that shapes the future of our national Type B capability

This is a process-led leadership role. You won’t be directly managing a team — instead, you will unify and elevate the systems, standards and frameworks that enable our Type B fitters nationally to operate safely, consistently and compliantly

In this role, you will:

  • Develop and execute a national growth strategy aligned to revenue and margin targets
  • Leading and unifying the national Type B process across licensing, documentation, quoting, compliance and assurance
  • Acting as Origin’s Type B Authorisation Holder, ensuring full regulatory alignment across all operating states
  • Strengthening capability across the function through technical training, structured upskilling and development pathways
  • Overseeing LPG tank installations and preventative maintenance programs in SEQ, ensuring safe and commercially sound delivery
  • Driving contractor performance, continuous improvement and sustainable growth of the industrial function

This is an opportunity to build something cohesive and scalable — bringing consistency to compliance, lifting standards nationally and positioning the Type B function as a stand-alone, high-performing specialist capability within Origin

About you

You are a technically credible Type B professional and leader with the ambition to step beyond field delivery and shape how a national function operates.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Current Type B qualifications, with a mechanical or engineering trade background
  • Strong industrial/commercial gas service & installation experience
  • Experience navigating regulatory compliance and licensing requirements across industrial environments
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor or uplift technical peers — formally or informally
  • The capability to build structure and improve processes within a specialist function

You may currently be a Type B fitter ready to step into broader leadership, or an industry operator looking to scale impact within a national organisation.

Most importantly, you are motivated to unify, uplift and grow a specialist industrial function — not simply maintain it.
