What is an LPC Associate?

An LPC Associate is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, a provisional licensure designation for individuals who have completed a master's degree in counseling or a related field and are working towards full licensure as a professional counselor. LPC Associates must practice under the supervision of a board-approved LPC Supervisor and complete a required number of supervised clinical hours before becoming fully licensed. This allows them to gain practical experience while ensuring client safety and professional development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an LPC Associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as an LPC Associate, you need a master’s degree in counseling or a related field, LPC Associate licensure, and a strong foundation in therapeutic techniques and ethical guidelines. Familiarity with mental health assessment tools, case management software, and documentation protocols is important for effective practice. Excellent active listening, empathy, and communication skills help build strong client relationships and facilitate positive outcomes. These skills and qualifications are crucial for providing ethical, effective care and progressing toward full licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor.

Job description

Outpatient Therapist / Mental Health Clinician
Family Therapy Associates

Help People Heal While Being Supported by a Team That Values Connection, Growth, and Balance
At Family Therapy Associates, we believe therapy works best when clinicians feel supported, connected, and valued. Our practice was built on the idea that meaningful mental health care begins with authentic relationships, both with clients and within our team. We are a collaborative group practice committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care while also creating a workplace culture that prioritizes flexibility, professional development, and sustainability for our clinicians. We strive to create an environment where clients feel safe, respected, and supported; and where therapists feel empowered to do meaningful work without carrying the burden of running a practice alone.

Position Overview
We currently have room to add a fully licensed and in-training provider to our team! We welcome clinicians who are passionate about helping others, value teamwork and consultation, and are looking for a practice environment that allows them to focus on clinical work in a collaborative environment. If you are interested in practicing in Eau Claire, Menomonie, Rice Lake, Hudson, New Richmond, or St. Croix Falls, we hope you will consider partnering with us!

At Family Therapy Associates, clinicians have the flexibility to create schedules that support both client care and work-life balance while receiving intake referral coordination, billing support, credentialing assistance, and ongoing collaboration from our clinical and leadership team. This position may include in-person, hybrid, or telehealth opportunities depending on clinician preference, licensure, and office location.

What We Offer
We understand that every therapist has different goals for their career, schedule, and lifestyle. Some clinicians value the consistency of a salaried role, while others prefer the flexibility and earning potential of a split-based model. Because of this, Family Therapy Associates offers a variety of compensation and scheduling options for both fully licensed and in-training providers.

Our goal is to help clinicians build a practice that feels sustainable and rewarding long term. Providers have the opportunity to choose a structure that supports both their professional growth and the kind of personal balance they want outside of work.

With us, your practice will benefit from:
  • Consistent intake referral flow and support with caseload development
  • Flexible scheduling with autonomy over your calendar
  • Credentialing and billing support
  • Beautiful and fully furnished office spaces
  • Hybrid and telehealth opportunities
  • A collaborative and supportive team culture
  • Consultation and peer support opportunities
  • Leadership that values clinician autonomy, well-being, professional development, and practice sustainability
  • Practice marketing support
  • Opportunities for professional growth and continuing education
  • Electronic health record, scheduling, and technology platforms provided
  • If needed, Clinical Supervision to advance to a fully licensed provider
What We're Looking For
We are seeking clinicians who:
  • Value compassionate, relationship-centered care
  • Work well independently while also appreciating collaboration
  • Demonstrate professionalism, strong communication, and ethical practice
  • Are motivated to build and maintain a consistent caseload
  • Have experience working in outpatient mental health settings or are eager to grow within private practice like setting
  • Enjoy working with individuals, couples, families, children, or adolescents
Qualifications
  • Licensed in Wisconsin as an LPC, LMFT, or LCSW
  • Ability to maintain professional documentation and ethical standards
  • Eligible for insurance credentialing
  • Experience providing outpatient psychotherapy preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and clinical skills
