About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

As a Sr. Service Engineer, Low Voltage Electrical, you will serve as the primary conduit between technicians in the field and design engineering for the vehicle program(s) assigned to you. You will foster discussions with engineering, ensuring that serviceability is kept at the forefront of new design. After the launch of your program(s) you will work with technicians as they service the vehicle and use your creativity and knowledge to come up with new ways to service the vehicle when the design is not able to be changed.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee certain aspects of design for serviceability on new vehicle programs as it pertains to the low-voltage electrical system and be able to influence cross-functional teams to incorporate service standards as needed

  • Develop new and existing standards, then drive requirements into the engineering development process

  • Define the service part BoM strategy for electrical devices, electronic control modules, wire harnesses, and service unique parts; advocate for minimizing program lifecycle costs while considering all stakeholders

  • Review engineering change proposals and actions; identify impacts to service parts, tools, or process and follow up with the relevant stakeholders to resolve concerns

  • Verify repairs and field action instructions can be performed accurately and precisely by technicians

  • Effectively collaborate with service tool engineering, service parts, diagnostic engineering, service documentation, training, and other stakeholders, to enable technicians to successfully repair Rivian vehicles

  • As needed, ensure that service procedures are being properly applied in the field

  • Identify, define, and escalate emerging concerns into a closed loop issue resolution system

  • Track serviceability metrics across multiple products and implement continuous improvement

Qualifications
  • BS in a relevant engineering discipline

  • Five years’ low voltage electrical engineering experience in the automotive or comparable industry

  • Experience developing or servicing automotive electrical hardware, is strongly preferred

  • Ability to work with various interpersonal and communication styles, to effectively define and resolve issues with cross-functional teams in a technology-focused environment

  • A proven track record of exemplary organization, is preferred

  • Usage of the following in detail: network topology diagrams, logical schematics, wire harness physical drawings, wire lists, spliced pigtail wires, and overlay cables

  • CAE design tool proficiency; 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA, Capital HarnessXC, Altium Designer, or equivalents

  • Proven success championing feature or attribute requirements in a complex, design-focused environment

  • Established analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with an intuition for overcoming challenges which are unusual and complex

  • Capable of considering the big picture at all times, with the ability to zoom into issues when needed

  • Ability to travel 5-10% as required

  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for 8-10 hours per day
