Job description

FIELD SERVICES SUPERVISOR

DEFINITION:
Under administrative direction, organizes, coordinates and supervises the installation of low-voltage cable and various support and related equipment and the adjustment and replacement of circuitry and electrical components. This position requires travel throughout California and the United States.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
  • Complete low-voltage tasks as a part of a team or independently. 
  • Oversee contractors, vendors and employees to complete low-voltage projects. 
  • Complete daily work logs and create as-built plans to turn over in client close-out packages. 
  • Support existing and recommend new equipment related to installation, upgrades and enhancements
  • Instruct, coordinate, manage and assess staff performance; verify and authorize employee hours; suggest corrective measures
  • Maintain system logs, manuals and reports documenting equipment testing and operation
  • Read and comprehend blueprints and building documentation/layouts. 
  • Ensure that equipment is onsite to meet construction schedules and deadlines.
  • Use a variety of cable test procedures and equipment
  • Test and terminate cable systems; test electronic units and analyze results to evaluate performance, including category and fiber cable types
  • Integrate access control security/video surveillance, fire alarm and nurse call systems
  • Provide your expertise as a resource to fellow colleagues, clients, and vendors
  • Train, schedule, supervise and evaluate subordinate personnel; recommend disciplinary action
  • Research and recommend equipment and services to be purchased 
  • Perform related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of:
  • CAT-5, CAT-6, RG6, RG59, fiber optics and other cables.
  • Audio-Visual Systems installation and foundational knowledge CCTV & Access Control system installation and maintenance.
  • Computer networking systems, including routers, switches, servers and workstations.
  • Principles of human resources management.

Skills:
  • Work effectively on a team.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Safely use tools and equipment including drills, cable cutters, saws, hammer drills, knock-out punches etc.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and building plans.
  • Research equipment needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, abilities and skills is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the qualifications would be:

BA/BS in construction, computer science or related field and eight (5) years related experience, including two (2) in a supervisory capacity.
Fiber Certifications for Single Mode and Multi-Mode Cable types or related certifications

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:
  • Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License and a good driving record.
  • Scissor Lift Certification is desirable.
  • OSHA-10 or greater is a plus.
  • Safety and First Aid Certification a plus

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to climb, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry 25 pounds.
  • Ability to get from one location to another in the course of doing business.

This is a full-time, exempt position. It requires managing projects that may occur during evening, weekend, or holiday hours, and involves being on-call for system or network issues.
