What is a lounge?

Lounge jobs refer to positions within a lounge, which is a comfortable area in airports, hotels, clubs, or restaurants where guests can relax, eat, drink, or wait. Common lounge jobs include lounge attendants, bartenders, servers, and managers who ensure guests have a pleasant experience. Duties often involve serving food and beverages, maintaining cleanliness, and providing customer service. These roles require good communication skills, attention to detail, and a focus on hospitality. Lounge employees may work in upscale environments and sometimes need to handle VIP clients.

What are the typical responsibilities of a lounge attendant during a busy shift?

Lounge attendants are responsible for maintaining a clean, welcoming environment for guests by promptly clearing tables, restocking supplies, and assisting with food and beverage service. During busy periods, they must efficiently manage multiple guest requests, ensure all areas remain tidy, and communicate effectively with kitchen and bar staff to coordinate service. Strong attention to detail, multitasking, and customer service skills are essential for handling high-traffic times while ensuring guests have a positive experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a lounge manager, and why are they important?

Familiarity with POS systems, reservation platforms, and inventory management software is typically required. Excellent customer service, leadership, and conflict resolution skills set outstanding lounge managers apart. Job Description

Job Title: Fursuit Lounge Attendant

Division: Operations
Department: Fursuit Lounge
Reports to: Fursuit Lounge Lead
Position Type: Unpaid Volunteer
Location: Expected to be on-site during convention dates.

About Anthro SoCal

Anthro SoCal is a community-driven convention celebrating furry fandom through art, performance, gaming, and social connection. Our success depends on the dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteer team. Anthro SoCal was formally known as Another Furry Con in 2024-2025.

Position Overview

The Fursuit Lounge Attendant is a vital member of the Fursuit Lounge Department, dedicated to providing a safe, clean, and refreshing environment for fursuiters. Acting as the "guardian of the oasis," this role ensures that attendees have a secure space to de-gear, hydrate, and cool down. You are the first line of defense against heat exhaustion and the primary architect of an organized, welcoming space. If you have a passion for supporting the fandom and don't mind a bit of "fur" and "fabrics," this role is for you.

Time Commitment
  • Year-round: None
  • As convention approaches: Occasional online meetings totaling about 1 hour per week
  • Convention weekend: On-site presence is required to work a set schedule
  • Pre and post-convention: On-site presence may be required to assist with setup and teardown activities the day before and the day after the event
Key Responsibilities

Your shift will revolve around maintaining the sanctuary of the lounge through the following duties:

  • Sanitization & Cleanup: Regularly wipe down surfaces and high-touch areas. You will be responsible for the disinfection of surfaces and the prompt disposal of trash to keep the area hygienic.
  • Attendee Assistance: Assist attendees with minor needs, such as reaching zippers, providing water, or helping navigate the lounge while their vision is restricted.
  • Health & Safety Monitoring: Keep a vigilant eye on attendees for signs of heat-related distress or exhaustion. You are responsible for immediately notifying the Safety Team if an attendee appears unwell or in need of professional intervention.
  • Climate Management: Monitor and manage high-powered fans and cooling stations to ensure maximum airflow throughout the room.
  • Spatial Organization: Regularly reset the lounge layout by returning tables and chairs to their designated positions, ensuring the floor remains clear of tripping hazards.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Vigilance: Ability to remain focused in a high-traffic environment and identify non-verbal cues of physical distress.
  • Communication Skills: Clear, polite, and assertive communication style for interacting with attendees and coordinating with convention safety staff.
  • Hygiene Standards: A proactive attitude toward cleanliness and a willingness to handle cleaning supplies/disinfectants.
  • Reliability: Strict adherence to shift times to ensure the lounge is never left unattended.

Preferred:

  • Convention Experience: Prior experience volunteering at furry conventions or similar fan-run events.
  • First Aid Knowledge: Basic understanding of the signs of heatstroke or dehydration (First Aid/CPR certification is a major plus).
  • Fursuiting Familiarity: Personal experience with fursuiting or handling, providing an "insider's" understanding of the limitations regarding heat and visibility.
  • De-escalation Skills: The ability to maintain a calm demeanor and manage crowds or over-stimulated attendees effectively.
What We Offer

While this is an unpaid volunteer position, we provide:

  • Free convention membership and staff perks
  • Staff hospitality (meals/snacks during your shifts at-con)
  • Exclusive staff events and social opportunities
  • Recognition in convention materials
  • Experience in event management and team leadership
  • A supportive, creative community environment
  • References and recommendation letters upon request

Anthro SoCal is committed to creating an inclusive environment. We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, experiences, and skill levels. All volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
