Operations Supervisor 

Full-time

Pointe-Claire, QC

As an Operations Supervisor, you are responsible for the supervision of the overall dock operations, including day to day processes and procedures, Drivers, and Dock Workers, to ensure safety and optimal dock performance.

How You'll Help: 

  • Provide daily guidance and motivation to Dock Workers (employees and agency workers) and Drivers (company and broker drivers) to ensure achievement of operational objectives for the terminal. 
  • Escalates issues of individual poor performance, inappropriate behaviour, absenteeism, etc. to the Regional Manager. 
  • Communicate monthly performance stats to the team to help measure, develop and improve operational performance.
  • Maintain policies and procedures and ensure compliance with federal and provincial transportation, safety, and employment legislation.
  • Ensure all incidents (personal injuries, transportation collisions, spills, near misses, etc.) are promptly reported, documented, an investigation is initiated and corrective/preventative measures are implemented.
  • Hold effective, weekly tailgate meetings and ensure safety issues are addressed.
  • Works with the team and others, internal and external to the terminal, to resolve roadblocks to achievement of daily operational objectives.
  • Ensure the schedule for the terminal is followed. 
  • Work with the Terminal Manager to track monthly performance stats for the dock.
  • Other duties as required

Your Skills and Experience: 

  • Minimum of secondary education, with preference of post-secondary education (general stream), or a combination of education and experience.
  • Forklift certified
  • Trained in the Transportation of Dangerous Goods
  • WHMIS certified
  • Previous Transportation or operational experience is preferred, various roles within transportation would be beneficial 
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a terminal setting, preferably in the transportation industry.
  • Experience leading a team of front line employees, managers, and supervisors
  • Contributing to the development of and managing to an annual operating budget.
  • Strong leadership skills specifically the ability to motivate and drive engagement to achieve objectives, facilitate conflict resolution, and to provide training
  • Advanced communication skills, particularly verbal
  • Computer skills, including the use of MS Word, Excel & Outlook, and web based programs as well as RF scanners. Experience using AS400, a strong asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills including customer focus
  • Results driven
  • Appropriate sense of urgency
  • Strong sense of safety; training and experience in similar safety sense environments a strong asset
  • Knowledge of industry-related equipment, including forklifts, lift jacks, trailers, etc. a strong asset
  • Able to work with little supervision
  • Supervises a group of Drivers and Dock Workers, both employee and contractor/agency, directly and indirectly through Lead Hands.
  • Relays information from the Operations Manager to Dock Workers and keeps the Operations Manager updated with dockside operations.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is required for internal communication with terminals across Canada.

En tant que superviseur des operations, vous etes responsable de la supervision des operations globales du quai, incluant les processus et procedures quotidiens, les chauffeurs et les travailleurs de quai, afin d'assurer la securite et une performance optimale du quai.

Comment vous contribuerez

  • Fournir une orientation et de la motivation quotidiennes aux travailleurs de quai (employes et travailleurs d'agence) et aux chauffeurs (chauffeurs d'entreprise et chauffeurs contractuels) afin d'assurer l'atteinte des objectifs operationnels du terminal.
  • Signaler au gestionnaire regional les cas de rendement insuffisant, de comportement inapproprie, d'absenteisme ou toute autre problematique individuelle.
  • Communiquer les statistiques de performance mensuelles a l'equipe afin de mesurer, developper et ameliorer la performance operationnelle.
  • Maintenir les politiques et procedures et assurer la conformite aux lois federales et provinciales relatives au transport, a la securite et a l'emploi.
  • S'assurer que tous les incidents (blessures, collisions de transport, deversements, quasi-accidents, etc.) sont signales rapidement, documentes, qu'une enquete est amorcee et que des mesures correctives et preventives sont mises en place.
  • Tenir des reunions de securite hebdomadaires efficaces ( tailgate meetings ) et s'assurer que les enjeux de securite sont abordes.
  • Travailler avec l'equipe et avec les partenaires internes et externes au terminal afin de resoudre les obstacles a l'atteinte des objectifs operationnels quotidiens.
  • S'assurer que l'horaire du terminal est respecte.
  • Collaborer avec le gestionnaire du terminal pour suivre les statistiques de performance mensuelles du quai.
  • Effectuer toute autre tache connexe au besoin.

Vos competences et votre experience

  • Diplome d'etudes secondaires minimum, avec preference pour des etudes postsecondaires (generales), ou une combinaison equivalente d'etudes et d'experience.
  • Certification de chariot elevateur.
  • Formation sur le Transport des marchandises dangereuses (TMD).
  • Certification SIMDUT (WHMIS).
  • Une experience prealable en transport ou en operations est preferable; differentes fonctions dans le domaine du transport constituent un atout.
  • Minimum de 5 ans d'experience dans un environnement de terminal, idealement dans l'industrie du transport.
  • Experience de supervision d'une equipe d'employes de premiere ligne, de gestionnaires ou de superviseurs.
  • Contribution a l'elaboration et a la gestion d'un budget operationnel annuel.
  • Solides competences en leadership, notamment la capacite de motiver les equipes, favoriser l'engagement, resoudre les conflits et offrir de la formation.
  • Excellentes competences en communication, particulierement a l'oral.
