Job description

Logico, a Logistics Service Provider, has an opening for Logistics Manager located in the Metro Detroit Area. This high-profile position will be responsible for the design, implementation and management of the logistics activities for a Tier 1 automotive parts manufacturer (including booking, tracking, and managing loads). Primary responsibilities of this role include the operational execution of the routing plan including managing daily transportation operations, identifying and implementing logistics cost savings, monitoring and reducing overall freight spend, and working to build and strengthen relationships with the customer and the customer’s vendors.

This position requires experience in transportation and logistics with a record of increasing responsibility. Experience should include operational transportation management, transportation procurement, materials management, and freight bill audit & payment. Work is on-site at our customers location.

Duties and responsibilities to include:

  • Be a leader of the organization and represent professionalism in all forms to the customer’s employees, and service providers.
  • Communicate effectively and build professional relationships with internal/external customers and strive to exceed their expectations.
  • Monitor and manage the Customer’s transportation budget and performance metrics
  • Resolve all transportation/shipping issues promptly. Communicate resolution plans to the customer and other interested parties and follow up to ensure plans are effectively implemented.
  • Work closely with the plants to help identify and drive cost saving opportunities and transportation efficiencies.
  • Develop and distribute metrics and reporting that meets and forecasts the customer needs. These metrics should be developed from industry experience and assessment of customer and company inputs
  • Track and ensure visibility of all inbound transportation into the plants and consolidation centers
  • Work with plants, suppliers, customers and carriers to coordinate expedites, inbound shipments, returns, international shipments, and intercepts.
  • Resolve freight payment exception items
  • Work with plant material analysts to understand material flow of parts into the plant and work to streamline
  • Gather and maintain logistics related data in support of the Customer
  • Monitor and report any premium shipments, and work to reduce
  • On call after hours, weekends, etc.
  • Travel is expected to be at least 50% as needed
  • Travel will be within North America including Canada and Mexico, possibly overseas.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a transportation/logistics role, preferably within the third-party logistics Industry.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration, or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimum supervision
  • Successful track record of achieving and exceeding goals
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to build positive working relationships
  • Exceptional skills in oral and written communications and effective time management
  • Organized and have a high degree of PC application proficiency in MS Office, AI applications, Excel, Data Analytics, with the ability to review and summarize vast volumes of data.
  • Detailed knowledge of the various surface transportation modes (Truckload, LTL, Expedite, Intermodal, Consolidation/Pool Distribution). Ideally with transportation procurement experience
  • JIT automotive experience highly preferred
