Sr. Manager, Trade & Global Logistics
Toast is driven by building the restaurant platform that helps restaurants adapt, take control, and get back to what they do best: building the businesses they love.
This is a senior level position that will lead the Global Transportation, Trade & Compliance team at Toast. This high performing leader will set the strategy for domestic and international transportation of hardware products with a focus on operational excellence while also preparing for changes to the business. This leader will also be tasked with continuously monitoring and apprising Hardware Supply Chain Operations leadership of potential risks in the global logistics landscape all the while implementing appropriate risk mitigation strategies. Finally, this person will provide subject matter expertise on cross-border transportation, imports, exports and ensure all Toast transportation activities are set up for scale and remain in compliance with Customs and local regulations in all of the regions Toast operates in today and will in the future.
About this roll* (Responsibilities)
  • Lead the end to end strategy through execution of Toast's global transportation function
  • Own and elevate high-stakes relationships with primary carriers
  • Translate complex, ground-level logistics metrics into high-level strategic business cases for executive review.
  • Act as the internal subject matter expert on trade compliance, proactively educating and advising cross-functional executive stakeholders on regulatory risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Build and own Toast's Trade & Compliance program through collaboration with all necessary internal and external parties (i.e. advisory, counsels, brokers and forwarders)
  • Mentor and coach the logistics team on implementing best practices
  • Communicate, escalate and manage risks that are identified with international transportation
  • Be a key member of the team that identifies and selects vendors (i.e. carriers, forwarders, brokers etc..) to ensure that Toast has the required capacity to execute per the supply plan at optimal cost
  • Serve as a champion of Logistics IT systems, implementing and utilizing technology tools (i.e. AI, freight visibility and freight pay systems) while leveraging vendor systems as applicable to provide visibility to freight and freight spend
  • Support function leadership in managing the transportation budget, delivering the operation at forecast, while leading cost savings initiatives for year over year improvements
  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders such as Commercial, Planning, Warehousing/3PL operations, Product, Engineering, IT, Finance, Accounting, as well as external partners to optimize the end to end Logistics flow of materials and data

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)
  • 7+ years of direct experience with global freight transportation and trade compliance
  • In-depth understanding of cross border regulations and compliance requirements (Customs Broker license is a plus but not required)
  • Strong people management, organization and communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and continuous learning mindset with ability to present clearly and concisely
  • Proven ability to establish control of global transportation operations using appropriate tools/systems and KPIs/metrics (costs and on-time performance)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of implementing logistics systems, trade & compliance tools and working with IT teams to scale operations and/or enable new capabilities
  • Willingness to challenge the status quo by questioning existing practices, identifying barriers, and developing new and better ways to do things ensuring contin

The base salary range for this role is listed below. The starting salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, our total rewards components include cash compensation (overtime, bonus/commissions if eligible), equity, and benefits.
