Scope of the Role

As a Commodity Accounting Specialist, you serve as the central accounting point of contact for Risk Management, Accounting, Logistics, Operations, and external customers and vendors. The position exists to ensure commodity transactions are recorded accurately and on time, supporting reliable financial reporting and operational execution.
Key responsibilities include processing, reconciling, and accounting for grain, ethanol, distillers, denaturant, freight, and related commodity activity; completing timely accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions; assisting with month-end close; supporting commodity reporting and regulatory compliance programs; and contributing to continuous improvement work that strengthens accuracy and efficiency.

A Typical Workday

Your day runs Monday through Friday, 8โ€“5, in an onsite setting where accuracy and follow-through matter. You'll coordinate across teams to keep information aligned, review transaction details for completeness, and resolve timing or documentation questions with internal partners and external contacts. You'll spend focused time working in spreadsheets and systems, comparing supporting documents to system entries, and preparing items that are ready for review during close and reporting cycles. As priorities shift, you'll track open questions, communicate status clearly, and keep records organized to support audits and compliance needs. You'll also participate in process updates that make the workflow more consistent and easier to reconcile going forward.


Required qualifications/skills:
- High school diploma or GED (Associate's degree preferred)
- 2+ years of related accounting experience preferred (commodity/ag/logistics a plus)
- Experience with AP/AR, reconciliations, and ERP/accounting systems preferred
- Detail-oriented, organized, Excel-proficient; strong communication and confidentiality
- Ability to obtain required explosives training and certification
