Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The 2nd Shift Warehouse Manager is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day warehouse operations within a fast-paced 3PL environment, ensuring accurate and timely receipt, storage, and fulfillment of client inventory. This role is accountable for leading a team of supervisors and associates, maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and productivity, and building strong relationships with 3PL clients. The ideal candidate brings deep logistics expertise, a data-driven mindset, and a passion for operational excellence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations Management:
  • Direct all inbound and outbound warehouse operations including receiving, putaway, order picking, packing, and shipping.
  • Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency, accuracy, and efficiency across all functions.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as order accuracy, on-time shipment, inventory accuracy, and labor productivity.
  • Manage labor planning including scheduling, overtime control, and temp staffing to align with client volume fluctuations.
  • Oversee cross-docking, value-added services (VAS), kitting, and special client programs as required.
Inventory Control:
  • Maintain high inventory accuracy through cycle counting programs, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
  • Partner with the WMS (Warehouse Management System) team to ensure system integrity, transactional accuracy, and process improvements.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies, shortages, and damages in a timely manner.
Client Relationship Management:
  • Serve as a primary operational point of contact for assigned 3PL clients, ensuring SLA compliance and proactive communication.
  • Participate in client business reviews, presenting operational metrics and identifying areas for service improvement.
  • Collaborate with Account Management and Business Development teams to support onboarding of new clients and business opportunities.
People Leadership:
  • Recruit, hire, train, and develop a high-performing team of supervisors, leads, and warehouse associates.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching and feedback, and manage disciplinary actions in alignment with HR policies.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and team collaboration.
Safety & Compliance:
  • Ensure strict adherence to OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and client-specific compliance requirements.
  • Lead safety meetings, incident investigations, and corrective action plans to maintain a zero-incident workplace.
  • Oversee proper operation and maintenance of material handling equipment (MHE) including forklifts, pallet jacks, and conveyor systems.
Financial & Continuous Improvement:
  • Manage department budget including labor costs, supplies, and equipment maintenance; identify and implement cost-saving initiatives.
  • Champion Lean, 5S, and continuous improvement methodologies to drive operational efficiency.
  • Prepare and present operational reports and action plans to senior leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
  • 5+ years of progressive warehouse or distribution center management experience, with at least 2 years in a 3PL environment.
  • Proven track record managing teams of 25+ employees across multiple shifts.
  • Strong proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
  • Solid understanding of inbound/outbound logistics, inventory management, and order fulfillment best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience managing client relationships and SLA delivery in a multi-client 3PL setting.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and warehouse safety standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint); comfort with data analysis and reporting.
Preferred:
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • APICS CSCP, CPIM, or equivalent supply chain certification.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher).
  • Experience with RF scanning, automation systems, or conveyor technology.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role operates primarily in a warehouse/distribution center environment. The position requires the ability to work in varying temperatures, stand and walk for extended periods, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. The Warehouse Manager must be available and flexible to support multi-shift operations, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs dictate.
