The Opportunity
Our client is a well-established and respected leader in the building materials industry, serving contractors, builders, and homeowners throughout Alberta.
They are seeking an experienced Yard & Warehouse Manager to lead the daily operations of a busy distribution facility in Edmonton. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing all yard and warehouse operations, developing a high-performing team, driving operational efficiency, maintaining inventory accuracy, and ensuring exceptional customer service.
The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader with a strong background in the lumber and building materials industry who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys building strong teams while continuously improving operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and develop the yard and warehouse team while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and safety.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the yard and warehouse, including shipping, receiving, inventory control, order fulfillment, and workflow management.
  • Ensure inventory accuracy through cycle counts, inventory controls, and annual inventory processes.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with Occupational Health & Safety legislation and company policies.
  • Coordinate employee onboarding, training, and ongoing skills development.
  • Work closely with sales, purchasing, and operations teams to ensure customer orders are completed accurately and on time.
  • Identify opportunities to improve yard organization, warehouse layout, material flow, and operational efficiencies.
  • Oversee fleet, equipment, and facility maintenance while managing operational costs.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure operational reporting and documentation are completed accurately and on schedule.
Qualifications
  • Minimum five years of leadership experience within the lumber and building materials industry.
  • Strong knowledge of lumber products, building materials, warehouse operations, and distribution.
  • Proven experience leading yard, warehouse, distribution, or branch operations.
  • Strong understanding of inventory management, shipping, receiving, logistics, and material handling.
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety regulations and safe work practices.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, mentor, and develop employees while driving accountability and performance.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Customer-focused with the ability to balance operational priorities in a fast-paced environment.
