Position Overview

We are seeking a Fill-In / Locum Optometrist (OD) to provide coverage for scheduled time off and occasional clinic needs. This is a contract-based role with advance scheduling (typically 2+ months notice).

This opportunity is ideal for an optometrist looking for flexible clinical work in a well-supported, patient-focused environment.

Compensation

  • Daily rate: $400 – $800 per day, depending on experience
  • Flexible, pre-scheduled coverage dates

What You’ll Do in This Role

Primarily tasks, duties, and responsibilities below:

  • Provide comprehensive eye exams, including routine vision care and medical optometry
  • Conduct contact lens fittings and follow-ups, as needed
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient records
  • Deliver a high level of patient education and communication to support long-term eye health
  • Collaborate with clinic staff to ensure smooth patient flow and positive patient experience
  • Exercise clinical judgment in diagnosis, treatment, and referrals
  • Uphold all clinic standards, protocols, and patient care expectations
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and applicable regulations
  • Additional duties as assigned

Our Team

Our robust team currently consists of Dr. Patrick Knighton, plus an Office Manager, Optician Apprentice, Optometric Tech, Billing Specialist, Receptionist, and Fractional HR support.

We operate as a collaborative, patient-centered team focused on delivering thoughtful, high-quality care.

Ideal Candidate Profile

An ideal candidate is a licensed optometrist who values patient relationships, clear communication, and a consistent standard of care. This role is well-suited for someone who enjoys working independently in a calm setting while being supported by an experienced team.

Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution
  • Active Washington State Optometry License in good standing

Skills & Experience

  • Experience providing comprehensive eye exams in a clinical setting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a patient-first approach
  • Ability to work independently in a single-provider clinic environment
  • Comfortable with both vision and medical optometry
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Ability to adapt to established clinic workflows and protocols

Schedule & Flexibility

  • Coverage primarily needed on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
  • Dates scheduled in advance (typically 2+ months notice)
  • Opportunity for ongoing, repeat coverage based on fit

Additional Information

  • Fill-in ODs must carry their own malpractice insurance.
  • Credentialing requirements may apply depending on payor mix
