Waste Services

VLS Waste Services provides customized waste processing solutions for hazardous and non-hazardous industrial and commercial waste, including landfill diversion and sustainability programs, solidification of liquid waste, recycling, wastewater treatment, and waste sequestration.

Railcar Services

VLS Railcar Cleaning and Repair Services division provides specialty cleaning services for difficult-to-clean products, including chemicals, hardened materials, and pressurized gases, and comprehensive repair services for certified full-service repairs, tank car qualifications, and maintenance.

Marine Services

VLS Marine Services division offers state-of-the-art barge cleaning, repair, and gas-free facilities for various chemical solvents and downstream petroleum products.

The Field Location Supervisor will perform duties in a safe manner, to include, but not limited to managing the inspection of railcars, various railcar repairs, heating, cutting, and welding as determined from inspections. In addition, Field Location Manager will review all work completed on Billing Repair Cards/Work Orders and submit to client for billing and verifying the final inspection of railcars after repairs are made.

Job Duties:

  • Supervises hourly work force in the efficient, expeditious repair and maintenance of railroad tank cars and other railroad rolling stock.
  • Ensures AAR, FRA, and company quality control standards are adhered to by inspecting all completed work.
  • Records labor hours and material consumption in an accurate, timely manner.
  • Adheres to established production schedules by monitoring work in process and thereby effectively scheduling his/her subordinates.
  • Implements the safety program as established by SOPs enforces compliance with all safety rules, ensures hazardous conditions are corrected promptly and works towards eliminating employee injuries.
  • Participates in and actively supports quality projects and activities.
  • Conduct railcar inspections to ensure cars comply with all FRA, AAR and customer requirements.
  • Conducts safety meetings.
  • Creates and approve estimates and invoices for repairs in Digital Rail
  • Manages railcar inventory and parts compliance.
  • Performs weld repairs in horizontal, vertical and overhead positions.
  • Make weld repairs usings approved company procedures in compliance with AAR rules.
  • Removes and fits parts according to regulations and specifications.
  • Examines welds for bead size and other specifications.
  • Performs air brake testing in compliance with AAR publication S-486.
  • Performs leak testing on tank cars and tank car equipment.
  • Performs final inspection of repairs.
  • Other duties as assigned to assist the rail division.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Basic knowledge and ability to safely use hand tools and power tools.
  • Previous welding experience required.
  • Ability to obtain Certified Welder qualification per Appendix W (horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions) within 90 days of hire.
  • Knowledge and experience of HM-216 requalification
  • Knowledge and experience with air brake testing, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), and M1002/M1003 standards and procedures.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the AAR Field Manual.
  • Prior supervisory and/or management experience required.
  • Experience performing inspections and managing work orders required.
