What does a location manager do?

In the film industry, a location manager handles procuring the set and location for TV or movie filming. Your responsibilities in this career include collaborating with production companies and advertising agencies, developing solutions for problems that arise before and during shooting, finding the ideal location for different scenes, allocating funds and presenting a budget for filming related expenses, preparing negotiations to film in a specific area, and supporting the crew during filming. Your duties also require you to obtain any legal rights or permits before the shoot, inform residents of the set area, and minimize potential conflict. Location managers can also work for other industries, including retail and property.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a location manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Location Manager, you need expertise in site scouting, logistics coordination, negotiation, and a strong understanding of production requirements, often supported by experience in film, television, or event management. Familiarity with location management software, permitting processes, and budgeting tools is commonly required. Strong organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are essential soft skills for managing diverse teams and stakeholders. These skills ensure that productions run smoothly, locations are secured efficiently, and projects stay within budget and on schedule.

Job description

Description:

Multi-unit operations leadership.

This role carries full accountability for a district of four to six Take 5 locations — the teams, the operating results, and the P&L. It suits an experienced multi-unit operator, or a high-performing single-location manager prepared to take the next step.

WSM Ventures is a Take 5 Oil Change franchisee operating across Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Ours is a high-volume, fast-paced business whose results depend directly on the quality of leadership in each location. Decisions here are made quickly and close to the operation.

Responsibilities

• Deliver results across four to six locations: cars per day, average ticket, labor, inventory, controllable expense, and shop-level profitability

• Select, develop, and retain Shop Managers, building leadership depth rather than filling vacancies

• Oversee recruiting and onboarding execution at the location level, with specific accountability for retention through an employee's first sixty days

• Maintain a disciplined store visit and coaching cadence, documented and followed through

• Uphold customer experience standards, review scores, safety, and regulatory compliance across the district

• Report district performance, staffing, and operational issues to senior leadership on a consistent cadence

Compensation and Benefits

• Market salary plus quarterly bonus tied to district performance

• Medical coverage with a substantial employer contribution toward premiums

• Paid time off

• Dental, vision, disability, and life coverage available

• Paid training, including travel and lodging

Requirements:

Qualifications

• Multi-unit management experience, or a demonstrated record as a top-performing single-location manager ready for expanded responsibility

• Direct P&L ownership with measurable improvement

• Proven capability recruiting, developing, and retaining hourly teams in a high-turnover industry

• Background in restaurant, retail, or service operations where volume and labor management drive results

• Direct communication style and comfort holding others accountable

• Willingness to be present in the field; this is not a desk-based role

• Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and ability to travel throughout the district daily

Work Environment

The training period includes time working in the service bays, as effective coaching requires firsthand knowledge of the work. The role involves regular travel, extended periods of standing and walking, bending, twisting, and reaching, entering and exiting a shallow service pit, and lifting up to fifty pounds. Work is performed in shop environments subject to seasonal heat and cold.
