Job description

Position Overview

As a Software Engineering Group Manager within PNC's Enterprise Technology organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA; Cleveland, OH; or Denver, CO. You will lead the CTO Tools Engineering strategic portfolio, overseeing Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Tools, Enterprise Architecture Tools, and API Analytics and Engineering. The role requires strategic leadership, a proven record of delivery, and the ability to build scalable, modern platforms and lead large, high‑performing software engineering organizations.

Job Summary

Lead a significant expansion of the Enterprise Technology self‑service framework, a foundational capability in the organization’s strategy to scale and sustain support for its services. Guide senior engineering teams, collaborate with Architecture, product, and Infrastructure partners, and champion best‑in‑class engineering practices across the full software lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Portfolio & Technology Leadership
    • Own and manage a CTO‑aligned portfolio covering:
      Site Reliability Center and operational tooling;
      Enterprise Architecture tools and platforms;
      API engineering, analytics, and enablement.
    • Define technical vision, roadmaps, and investment priorities aligned to enterprise strategy.
    • Drive platform scalability, resiliency, observability, and performance outcomes.
    • Ensure modern engineering standards, including cloud‑native, DevOps, and API‑first architectures.
  • Delivery & Transformation
    • Lead complex, multi‑team delivery efforts with measurable business and technology outcomes.
    • Drive large‑scale technology transformations, including modernization of legacy platforms.
    • Establish delivery discipline using agile and lean methodologies.
    • Manage risk, dependencies, and execution across multiple initiatives.
  • People & Organizational Leadership
    • Lead, coach, and develop senior engineering managers and high‑performing engineering teams.
    • Build strong engineering culture focused on accountability, quality, reliability, and innovation.
    • Influence talent strategy, succession planning, and skills development.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Serve as a trusted technology partner to Enterprise Technology leaders, architects, product, and infrastructure teams.
    • Communicate clearly with executive stakeholders on delivery status, risks, and strategic tradeoffs.
    • Collaborate across business and technology functions to align priorities and outcomes.
  • Governance & Operational Excellence
    • Establish engineering metrics for reliability, availability, delivery predictability, and cost efficiency.
    • Ensure compliance with enterprise security, risk, and architectural standards.
    • Drive continuous improvement through data‑driven insights and automation.
  • Additional Management Responsibilities
    • Manages multiple development projects, development groups, and/or application support functions for a major business segment.
    • Oversees the development and implementation of multiple, complex, organization‑wide systems.
    • Allocates and ensures resource arrangements during the application development life cycle.
    • Maintains relationships with clients to ensure the implementation quality of application systems.
    • Provides solutions or recommendations on complicated technology issues for application development and implementation.
Qualifications
  • Experience in software engineering, including senior leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple engineering teams or managers.
  • Proven delivery and transformation experience in large‑scale, highly scalable environments.
  • Strong executive communication and influence skills.
  • Preferred skills: Application Development, Applications Delivery, Business Management, Customer Solutions, Design, Group Problem Solving, Process Improvements, Release Management, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Software Solutions, User Experience (UX) Design.
  • Competencies: Application Delivery Process, Application Development (Client/Server), Application Development (Object‑Oriented), Application Development Tools, Application Localization and Internationalization, IT Environment, Software Process Improvement (SPI).
  • Roles at this level typically require a university/college degree; higher level education such as a Master’s degree, PhD, or certifications is desirable.
  • At least 5 years of prior management experience is required.

Pay Transparency

Base Salary: $100,000.00 - $211,600.00. Salaries may vary based on geographic location, market data and on individual skills, experience, and education. This role is incentive eligible with the payment based upon company, business and/or individual performance.
