NV5 is seeking an Engineering Technician for our Charlottsville, VA and Cary, NC locations. Responsibilities include monitoring activities on construction sites and performing testing of soils, concrete, and asphalt pavement materials.  A company truck, phone, and safety equipment will be provided at our office.

Responsibilities
  • Performs In-Place Density Tests using nuclear density gauge, drive sleeve, or sand cone method.
  • Aggregate Sampling. Concrete/Grout/Masonry sampling (including: air content; slump testing; visual observations; casting samples of concrete cylinders, mortar cubes, and grout prisms; and obtaining core samples).
  • Also may perform asphalt sampling, backscatter tests, and coring.
Qualifications
  • Will train employees without work experience; but prefer that candidates have at least some construction-related work history.
  • Qualified candidates should have basic math and writing skills.
  • Strong work ethics
  • Ability to work as a team player.
  • Offer is contingent on background report
  • VDOT Soils and Aggregate Compaction or a NICET Construction Materials Testing Level II certification.

Work environment and physical demands of this position

  • This position will be subject to outside environmental conditions, including weather conditions such as wet and /or humid environments, extreme cold and/or heat, dusty and noisy work environments.
  • Work will primarily be in the field involving long-term standing and frequent walking as well as include common hazards at construction and project sites.
  • Must be able to carry, lift and push/pull up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to walk over rough and uneven terrain and be able to stand up to 10 hours a day on occasion.
  • Must have the ability to see, smell, hear, talk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel and twist, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, sit, stand, and walk.
  • Weekend and overtime work and/or overnight work and travel may be required.
  • Additional physical duties may be required, as necessary.
