How does a local driving role typically structure daily routes and manage delivery schedules?

In a local driving position, routes are often planned in advance to maximize efficiency and minimize travel time, with drivers receiving their schedules at the start of each shift. Daily responsibilities include loading and unloading goods, making multiple stops within a specific geographic area, and adhering to strict delivery windows. Communication with dispatchers and clients is frequent to address changes or delays. Time management and familiarity with local roads are essential, as drivers must complete all deliveries within their shift while complying with safety regulations.

Walmart does not typically offer new drivers a salary of $110,000. Entry-level driving positions usually start with lower pay, and salaries can increase with experience, route complexity, and hours worked. It is advisable to check Walmart's current job postings for specific salary details for driving roles.

Is $0.55 a mile good for a truck driver?

For a local driving job, paying $0.55 per mile is generally below industry averages, which typically range from $0.50 to $0.75 per mile depending on experience and region. Many drivers consider $0.55 a mile acceptable for short hauls or entry-level positions, but higher rates are common for experienced drivers or specialized freight. Factors such as load type, company policies, and benefits also influence overall compensation.

What is local driving?

Local driving refers to operating a vehicle, usually a truck or van, within a specific geographic area, typically within a city or region, rather than driving long distances across states or countries. Local drivers are responsible for picking up and delivering goods or passengers within a set radius, allowing them to return home at the end of their shift. This job often involves multiple stops, frequent loading and unloading, and interacting with customers. Local drivers usually have set schedules and benefit from familiar routes and regular hours, making it a popular choice for those seeking work-life balance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Local Driver, and why are they important?

Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and basic vehicle maintenance tools is typically required. Who We Are:
Weller Truck Parts began its history in Muskegon, Michigan in 1928 when Harry Weller, a small body shop owner, found value in recycled parts for the auto industry. The small business thrived so much that in 1949, Harry moved Weller Truck Parts to nearby Grand Rapids, MI. Since that time, Weller Truck Parts has continued to grow under the direction of the Weller family. In 2014, Weller became a member of the Jasper Holding family of companies and a 100% Associate Owned ESOP. Today, Weller continues to grow and out-service the competition by providing an engineered solution for efficient and cost-effective repair, removing the otherwise defunct units and parts from the path to a landfill.
What are you looking for?
Are you looking for a stable and growing company with employees that are passionate about working together to grow their future? If so, Weller Truck Parts is the company for you. Weller is 100% Associate Owned, which means that as an associate owner you will own stock in a financially successful and growth-oriented company through the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). Where many companies miss the mark, Weller hits a home run in understanding that their most important asset is the associate-owner, and for this reason Weller offers extensive benefits beyond ownership in the company.
Associates employed on a part-time basis are eligible for the following benefits:
  • Employee Assistance Program (up to 6 free counseling visits per family member, per year, per topic/issue)
  • ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Program) - after 1 year, some restrictions may apply.
  • 401k with Company Matching
