Job description

The Martin Marietta Upper Midwest Region is looking for a versatile Heavy Equipment Mechanic based out of our Maple Grove Maintenance Facility. This position will perform mechanical repairs on diesel powered mobile equipment as well as aggregate and asphalt plant equipment (loaders, dozers, crushers, conveyors, etc.) Responsibilities include trouble shooting and repairs of heavy equipment, rebuilds, removal and installation of mechanical parts, and preventative maintenance on all types of diesel-powered equipment. This is a union position and membership in the Operating Engineers Local 49 is required, current member preferred. 


Essential Functions

  • Advanced knowledge of engines, drive train, brakes, electrical and hydraulic
  • Advanced knowledge of yellow iron preferred

Work Environment 

This is a full-time position that may require long hours, overtime, and weekend work with an average of 46 hours per week. This job operates 100% of the time in a surface mine setting or shop setting. This role will be based out of the maintenance facility in Maple Grove and will provide support to all Minnesota locations as needed.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Additional schooling/certifications a plus
  • 3-5 years heavy equipment experience
  • A valid CDL (Class A or B) and excellent driving record

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Cat ET/SIS, Volvo Prosis needed
  • Experience with Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deer, and Volvo quarry/construction equipment/diesel engine repairs
  • Must provide own hand tools
