Job description

Our Senior Analyst will oversee and manage the daily operations of the wholesale gas portfolio to meet the requirements of the gas LDC's customers per applicable tariffs. Performs analysis of the system requirements and develops daily supply plans. Leads the daily forecasting, planning, scheduling, and reconciliation of nominated supply. Ensures the reliable use of the gas portfolio assets of pipeline and underground storage capacity, and peaking resources in coordination with Gas Operations. Oversees and is responsible for the pipeline contract administration including but not limited to the extension and termination of contracts. Participates in regional coordination committees and associations. Responsible for closing monthly pipeline volume measurement and scheduled quantities and coordinating with Gas Operations to finalize daily and monthly send out/throughput volumes. Supports Gas Accounting and End User Transportation program activity.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares the daily, monthly and seasonal load forecasting and portfolio management plans including:
    • Oversight, development and distribution of Requests for Proposals (RFPs)
    • Evaluation of RFP responses with recommendations to management
  • Leads the execution of all daily, monthly and seasonal wholesale supply and capacity transactions (including forecasting, planning, and scheduling) with third parties according to approved portfolio management policies and procedures.
  • Collects market intelligence through industry publications, conferences, and interactions/relationships with market participants
  • Negotiates NAESB agreements with new counterparties, consulting with Treasury and Legal departments as needed to enable documents for gas transactions.
  • Keeps current with all pipeline tariffs, rate cases and other filings.
  • Contributes and supports in the development of state mandated Forecast Supply Plans.
  • Works closely with various team members and department experts to achieve departmental goals.
  • Supports the Manager of Gas Supply by performing special analysis as needed in areas of Gas Supply portfolio management, regulatory proceedings and gas market analysis.

Gas Supply Operations:

  • Assist in the preparation of the daily, monthly and seasonal load forecasting and portfolio management plans
  • Development, execution and oversight of monthly and daily pipeline scheduling requirements.
  • Coordinates daily supply and demand balancing with Gas Operations and executes adjustments as needed to ensure pipeline operational balancing agreement parameters are met.
  • Oversees and reconciles daily/monthly EUT nominated and scheduled quantities.
  • Oversee and executes the release of capacity to mandatory retail choice providers and non-mandatory marketed releases.
  • Oversees and reconciles daily/monthly pipeline delivered supply measurement and scheduled quantities for monthly close process in coordination with Gas Supply accounting group.
  • Maintains pipeline contract database for to monitor extensions and expirations by keeping current with all pipeline tariff and case filings.
  • Participates in business continuity and emergency preparedness efforts within the organization.

Qualifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strong spreadsheet, analytical and statistical skills (e.g. pivot tables, regression analysis, lookup & reference functions) with attention to details and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of gas transportation, production, distribution, storage and system operation.
  • Thorough knowledge of gas contracting practices and/or procurement activities.
  • Knowledge of pipeline tariffs, and of pipeline and distribution facilities and operational characteristics.
  • Experience nominating and scheduling using pipeline electronic bulletin boards and nomination systems (preferably in Northeast)
  • Requires computer modeling skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to execute under tight deadlines.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Business, a related discipline or equivalent experience
  • Master's degree or MBA is preferred

Experience:

  • Five (5) plus years of natural gas supply experience including scheduling and/or accounting or related industrial experience preferred
