Senior Elixir Software Engineer, Environment and Supply Chain Innovation

Sunnyvale, California, United States Operations and Supply Chain

The Environment and Supply Chain Innovation (ESCI) team sits within Operations and works to uphold Apple’s values across our global supply chain. The ESCI Technology Solutions team is seeking an experienced Elixir engineer to join us. You’ll work alongside other software and data engineers in collaboration with our internal and external users to build applications that help support ESCI’s goals which include upholding the highest standards of labor and human rights for the people in our supply chain and Apple 2030 — Apple’s goal to be carbon neutral across our global footprint by 2030.

Description

As a Senior Elixir Engineer, you will be a technical leader responsible for designing and implementing high-performance systems using Elixir and Phoenix. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex technical challenges, establish engineering best practices, and drive architectural decisions. You’ll partner closely with ESCI subject-matter experts across multiple disciplines to craft requirements and strategy — strong communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable Elixir applications leveraging Phoenix/LiveView
  • Mentor and guide engineers, conducting code reviews and promoting Elixir best practices across the organization
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions and strategies
  • Effectively communicate and present technical solutions, strategy, and roadmaps to ESCI stakeholders
Minimum Qualifications
  • 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with 3+ years of production Elixir/OTP experience
  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of Phoenix framework, LiveView, and Ecto
  • Strong knowledge of databases (PostgreSQL preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with non-technical teams
  • Experience leading technical projects and mentoring engineering teams to establish best practices via PR review, collaboration, and writing ADRs
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools to enhance coding workflows, PR reviews, and testing practices, with excellent judgment in when and when not to use AI
  • Proven ability to work directly with product managers and designers to translate business needs into intuitive and high-impact user experiences
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with CQRS/ES architecture (Commanded)
  • Experience with Data Engineering practices and tools including data transformation frameworks (dbt), data warehousing platforms (Snowflake, Databricks), ETL/ELT pipelines, and building data marts for analytics
  • Knowledge of Swift and iOS/MacOS application development and frameworks
  • Working knowledge of Python to effectively support and partner with our data engineering and SME teams
  • Experience with Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code frameworks (Terraform)
  • Knowledge of observability tools and practices (Telemetry, Prometheus, Grafana)

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $184,700 and $277,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
