THE ROLE
Reporting to the Payroll Director within Shared Services, the Payroll Analyst will research payroll-related unclaimed property, contact employees with outstanding checks, maintain a list of employee overpayments, and follow up on repayments to ensure appropriate tax treatment.
The Payroll Analyst will also assist with special projects, reporting, and preparation of manual payments. This employee will demonstrate high processing accuracy and superior customer service in the demanding, fast-paced live entertainment industry. This is a primarily onsite role in our Houston office.
WHAT THIS ROLE WILL DO
  • Maintain an updated list of all uncashed checks and returned payroll wages
  • Maintain an updated list of all garnishment refunds and re-issue monies owed
  • Communicate with employees to update addresses or banking information and follow through with the re-issuance of any outstanding monies owed to employees
  • Maintain a listing of employees that have been overpaid, timing and plan for repayment as well as calculation of all tax effects of the repayments
  • Maintain a list of employees who have received advances and ensure appropriate deductions
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures
  • Assist in answering the payroll hotline and handling employee requests or issues
  • Review and test system update releases
  • Serve as a backup to the rest of the team for issuance of out of cycle manual checks
  • Continuous evaluation and improvement of all payroll processes seeking maximum processing efficiency and accuracy by researching and making recommendations regarding new technology and automated solutions for payroll processing
  • Maintain high level of customer service including timely research and response to inquiries and consultation on payroll issues including tax and regulatory matters
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of payroll information and data files
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

WHAT THIS PERSON WILL BRING
  • Minimum 5 years of processing end-to-end payroll experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a corporate environment
  • Multi-state experience that includes California payroll law experience required
  • Extensive working knowledge of high-volume payroll processing, greater than 10,000 employees preferred
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to maintain open communications and a collaborative team environment
  • Attention to detail and ability to learn and understand the unclaimed property requirements
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and take initiative in areas of responsibility
  • Ability to learn and understand the necessary components of processing payroll
  • Strong customer service orientation, exhibiting patience and an ability to maintain a professional demeanor in all communications, both verbal and written
  • Effective organizational and interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication with employees at all levels
  • Excellent analytical and independent thinking skills
