Job description

In-Home Caregiver (CNA/PCA/HHA)

Location: Wake Forest, NC and nearby communities
Pay: $14–$18 per hour, based on credentials, experience, and assignment
Employment Type: Part-time and PRN, with opportunities for additional hours as client needs grow

Are you looking for a caregiving position where you can slow down, focus on one person, and make a meaningful difference?

Preferred Care at Home of Wake Forest, Zebulon, and Henderson is building a dependable local team of caregivers to support seniors in Wake Forest and nearby communities, including Youngsville, Franklinton, Rolesville, and Louisburg. We are seeking CNAs, PCAs, HHAs, and experienced caregivers who believe older adults deserve compassionate, respectful care in the comfort of their own homes.

Unlike facility-based care, our caregivers work one-on-one with clients. This gives you the opportunity to understand each person’s routines, preferences, and needs while building a genuine relationship with the client and family.

This is an assignment-based position. Schedules and weekly hours vary based on client needs, caregiver availability, qualifications, proximity, and compatibility. We make every reasonable effort to match caregivers with clients close to where they live. Additional assignments and hours may become available as our client base grows.

Why Join Our Team?
  • One-on-one client care

  • Flexible, assignment-based scheduling

  • Weekly pay

  • W-2 employee position

  • Thoughtful matching based on skills, availability, preferences, and proximity

  • A locally owned and family-operated agency

  • Responsive support and open communication

  • Opportunities for additional hours as new assignments become available

  • Meaningful work helping seniors remain safely at home

Responsibilities May Include

Depending on your training, experience, and assigned care plan, responsibilities may include:

  • Providing companionship and emotional support

  • Assisting with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and personal hygiene

  • Supporting safe transfers, walking, and mobility

  • Preparing meals and assisting with eating

  • Completing light housekeeping and laundry

  • Providing medication reminders

  • Assisting with grocery shopping and errands

  • Providing transportation when authorized as part of the assignment

  • Supporting clients living with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia

  • Observing, documenting, and reporting changes in a client’s condition

  • Following the client’s established plan of care

  • Communicating professionally with clients, families, and the agency

Caregivers are assigned only to responsibilities appropriate for their qualifications, demonstrated competencies, and the client’s plan of care.

Qualifications

Applicants should meet at least one of the following:

  • Active, good-standing listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry or the NCDHHS Health Care Personnel Registry

  • Completed PCA or HHA training

  • Previous professional caregiving experience in home care, assisted living, memory care, senior care, or a related setting

  • Relevant personal caregiving experience with the ability to complete required training and competency evaluations

All applicants must also have:

  • A compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to care

  • Reliable transportation to clients’ homes

  • Dependable and professional work habits

  • Strong communication skills

  • The ability to complete required employment and background screening

  • The ability to safely perform the duties of an accepted assignment, with or without reasonable accommodation

Dementia care experience and current CPR/First Aid certification are preferred but not required.

A valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and acceptable driving record are required for assignments involving client transportation.

Pay
  • PCA, HHA, and caregiver assignments: generally $14–$17 per hour

  • CNA assignments: generally $16–$18 per hour

Final pay is based on credentials, relevant experience, training, shift requirements, and client needs. Any assignment-specific rate or differential will be disclosed before you accept the assignment.
