Position: Summer Camp Squash Counselor

Department: Summer Camp at Milton Academy

Location: Squash Courts, Milton Academy Campus, Milton, MA

Hours: 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. Monday through Friday (opportunity for more

hours available)

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Classification: Staff (Seasonal-Summer)

Salary Range: $16 - $18/hour

Milton Academy is an independent college preparatory K12 school, boarding and day in grades 912, located just outside of Boston.

Summary of Position:

This is a seasonal position beginning in mid-June and ending in early August (6 weeks). The summer camp squash counselor will be responsible for interacting with and overseeing squash campers throughout the day. These counselors will assist the head squash coach with lessons and skill-building for campers. In addition, they will have the option to extend their day and help lead elective blocks. The summer camp squash counselor will be enthusiastic, attentive, and proactive.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Communicate effectively with children and staff in all areas of the camp operation.

  • Work cooperatively as necessary with all other staff members in planning, implementation, and evaluation of the program.

  • Assist with transporting campers to and from their squash activities

  • Be active and engaging with campers during their squash instruction.

  • Interpret rules, regulations, and expectations of the camp, with special emphasis on safety, health, and mutual respect.

  • Guide each individual camper in participation in all squash camp activities.

  • Lead/teach activities and games appropriate to camper skills and program needs.

  • Assist with all squash program activities

  • Oversee snack/free play/lunch times and make sure students are eating and engaged during those times.

  • Set an overall good example for all other staff and campers.

  • Prepare written evaluation at the end of the summer following the guidelines provided by the Director.

  • Arrive to work on time and dress appropriately.

Supervision to be received: Reports directly to the Summer Camp Squash Coach.

Supervision to be exercised: Direct supervision of squash campers.

Experience Preferred:

  • Must have knowledge of the squash game: rules, techniques, and strategies

  • Experience working with children, preferred.

  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated computer proficiency, including GoogleSuite, Microsoft Word

  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external constituencies.

  • Understanding of confidentiality and related issues.

  • Receptive to supervision and professional development.

  • Desire to be a part of a dynamic educational community.

Physical Abilities:

Required:

  • To run, jump, swing a racket, hit a ball and have the endurance to play and lead squash games.

  • Must be able to work at a computer for up to 8 hours each day in conjunction with OSHA requirements.

  • Must be able to move around the Milton Academy campus without restriction.

  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.
