Job description

TRIO Upward Bound is a federally funded, year-round college access program that prepares students for success in higher education through tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment opportunities.
The Brandeis University TRIO Upward Bound Program is seeking dedicated and experienced Residential Mentors to support a one-week summer residential program for low-income, first-generation, college-bound high school students from Waltham High School.
This immersive, on-campus experience is part of a six-week summer program designed to provide students with academic enrichment, college readiness skills, and exposure to campus life. During the residential week, students will live in the dorms and participate in structured academic, social, and leadership programming.
Position Overview
Residential Mentors will live on campus and play a key role in supervising and supporting students throughout the residential week. Staff will help ensure a safe, engaging, and structured environment while supporting both academic and social programming.
Program Dates
Residential Week: June 28 - July 3
Training
Staff training will take place from June 22 - June 26
Compensation
$17 per hour plus room and meals during the residential week
Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise students during program and residential activities
  • Support student engagement and community building
  • Coordinate evening check-ins and assist with nighttime monitoring
  • Enforce program and residence hall expectations
  • Communicate student concerns to professional staff
  • Assist with program setup and daily operations
  • Support academic programming and workshops
  • Assist with evening programming, including social and leadership activities
  • Build positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate boundaries

Qualifications
  • Upper class college students or graduate students preferred.
  • Experience working with high school students or youth programs
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to supervise students in a residential setting
  • Commitment to supporting first-generation students
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Experience with TRIO programs
