Job description

The International Studies Office seeks a creative Social Media Intern to promote Education Abroad opportunities and events. This internship provides a hands-on opportunity to develop and implement social media strategies on various platforms. The successful candidate will be able to bring fresh ideas, engage with the UVA online community, and have interest in improving their social media management and strategic outreach skills.

The duties and responsibilities of a Social Media Intern include:

- Writing social media captions

- Creating visually appealing graphics and multimedia content

- Scheduling posts using social media management tools such as Canva/Meta Business

- Regularly communicating and collaborating with education abroad advisors and outreach coordinator

- Taking pictures and creating content during major Education Abroad events such as Fairs and Global Week

- Ensuring brand messaging is consistent and follows the UVA digital communication guidelines offered by BrandDot Virginia

- Maintaining a consistent presence on each channel

- Developing new strategies for increasing engagement

- Tracking social media engagement to identify high-performing ideas

- Assisting with students' Social Media takeovers

- Staying updated on the latest social media trends and platform changes

- Keeping an eye on other Higher Education Institutions' study abroad social media activities

- Monitoring and engaging with other UVA social media accounts

- Collecting and analyzing marketing activity data bi-weekly

- Other duties and projects as assigned

A successful Social Media Intern should have excellent written communication skills and practical experience on major social media platforms, and the ability to strategically utilize them.

Previous experience studying abroad is preferred. The Social Media intern will develop a broad range of skills, including creative thinking, time management, data analysis, communication and project management. Great opportunity for those interested in learning about strategic outreach.

The intern is expected to work 10-15 hours per week at a rate of $15.25/hour. The work schedule will be hybrid, with regular time in the International Studies Office and at events around Grounds.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Current undergrad UVA student
Experience: Study Abroad experience preferred
Application Requirements: Resume and Cover Letter both required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
