The Defense Systems Group (DSG) provides analysis-based decision support to senior leaders on space architectures, policy and strategy, technology development, warfighter capability enablers, systems integration, defense industrial base, and threat reduction to help shape existing and future space missions across the national security space (NSS) enterprise. DSG is unique at Aerospace as it not only directly supports major customers, including the U.S. Space Force, U.S. Space Command, Air Force Material Command, and senior leadership at the Pentagon, but also provides a broad range of technical support across the national space enterprise, maintaining vertical responsibilities with customers' portfolios as well as horizontal, matrixed responsibilities across the corporation. Additionally, DSG provides deep technical expertise to the Space Force Space Systems Command (SSC) in the conception, design, acquisition, launch and operations of satellite, launch vehicle, ground control, and range systems.
As part of the Space Enterprise and Warfighting Division, the Space Warfighting Directorate provides high-quality analytical support to the US Space Force's Combat Forces Command (CFC), Space Training and Readiness Command (STARCOM), and Component Field Commands, advising the Government on the design, performance, operational employment, and resilience of current and future space forces to integrate into the joint fight delivering combat relevant space effects, in, from, and to space to win the next war. We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Systems Engineer to support Headquarters CFC, and its Mission Deltas. The successful candidate will be able to provide experience-based technical expertise and trusted counsel to CFC and Mission Delta leadership on all aspects of the USSF space operations portfolio.
This position requires 100% on-site work at the Aerospace Colorado Springs campus, and at the customer location on Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Providing trusted technical counsel to the USSF CFC, including senior leadership, on all aspects of Space-Based - Moving Target Indicator (SB-MTI) capabilities as a new mission for the United States Space Force (USSF).
  • Serving as a key advisor for the customer's mission fielding processes representing the operational community to inform the planning, integration, transition, operational acceptance, employment, and sustainment of SB-MTI capabilities.
  • Engaging across the Aerospace backplane to bring the company's deep technical expertise and operational experience to bear for the successful fielding, operational acceptance and employment of SB-MTI capabilities.
  • Supporting CFC Mission Delta Weapons and Tactics functions and engaging with Mission-Focused Working Groups (MFWG), leveraging Aerospace original scientific discovery and analysis, tool development and sustainment, and live experimentation for the customer's hardest problems.
  • Providing the customer with technical assessments of system design, process integrity, and schedule confidence for missions with rapid acquisition timelines.
  • Working with mixed government, Systems Engineering & Technical Analysis (SETA) and FFRDC teams on architecture, strategy, and systems engineering projects and tasks.
  • Delivering high-quality technical products in a timely manner.
  • Exemplifying Aerospace corporate values of objectivity and integrity when serving as a trusted agent to our government customers.

What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements for Senior Project Engineer - Systems Engineering - Acquisition and Systems Engineering:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, mathematics or other relevant technical disciplines.
  • Twelve or more years of increasingly responsible relevant professional engineering experience supporting National Security Space (NSS) missions.
  • Operational and/or intelligence background in Ground MTI (GMTI), and/or Airborne MTI (AMTI) mission areas.
  • Familiarity with USSF satellite operations, tasking management, and Battle Management Command, Control and Communications (BMC3).
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain trusted relationships with government customers and key stakeholders under minimal supervision.
  • Experience with the elements and processes associated with a government system acquisition lifecycle as well as the Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution (PPBE) processes.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills for interactions at all levels of corporate and government leadership.
  • This position requires a current and active TS/SCI security clearance and additional special accesses, which are issued by the U.S. government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
  • Ability to travel domestically, with some international travel possible.

How You Can Stand Out
It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:
  • Previous experience with USSPACECOM, other Combatant Commands, and/or service components.
  • Previous experience with USAF tactical C2/BMC3 mission operations (e.g. AWACS, JSTARS, CMCC).
  • Current knowledge of G/AMTI technologies, capabilities, acquisition, along with an understanding of associated space and ground systems development to include the Space Data Network (SDN).
  • Previous experience with highly autonomous satellite operations, hardware / payload and system design, integration and performance, antenna transmit/receive modules; processing and product development supporting ground and on-board processing and auto target recognition (ATR).
  • Master's degree or greater from an accredited program in science, technology, engineering, or national security; space systems engineering/operations (e.g. Naval Postgraduate School).
  • Graduate of the United States Air Force Weapons School.
  • Knowledge and experience working across and leveraging the Aerospace Corporation's backplane, as well as partnering with other FFRDC partners.
  • Experience breaking down complex concepts and providing subject-matter expertise to interested parties to aid in solving the hardest space warfighting problems.
  • Experience in effectively interacting with and advising USSF and government senior leaders on matters of strategic importance.
  • Current applicable Special Access Program (SAP) /Special Access Required (SAR) accesses.
