Live In Sitter information

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a Live In Sitter, and how do they differ from those of a standard babysitter?

A Live In Sitter typically handles a wider range of daily responsibilities than a standard babysitter, as they reside in the family's home and provide ongoing care. These duties often include preparing meals, assisting with homework, organizing activities, maintaining routines, and sometimes performing light housekeeping related to the children. Live In Sitters also provide overnight supervision and are available for emergencies or schedule changes, making flexibility and strong communication skills essential. Unlike occasional babysitters, Live In Sitters become an integral part of the household, often coordinating closely with parents and adapting to the family's unique needs.

What is a live-in sitter?

A live-in sitter is a caregiver who resides in the home where they provide their services, typically offering childcare, pet care, or elderly assistance. Unlike a regular babysitter or caregiver who works set hours, a live-in sitter is available to help throughout the day and night as needed. This arrangement can provide families with greater flexibility and peace of mind, especially during travel, work commitments, or emergencies. Live-in sitters may receive room and board in addition to their salary, and their responsibilities can vary widely depending on the family's needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Live In Sitter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Sitter, you need experience in caregiving, basic first aid knowledge, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with household management tools, medication reminders, and sometimes CPR certification is usually required. Patience, strong communication, and trustworthiness help build strong relationships with clients and their families. These skills ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of those under your care while fostering a reliable support environment.

In summary, a Live In Sitter provides full-time, continuous childcare within the employer's home, often living on-site, while a Babysitter typically offers part-time, scheduled care without residing in the home. Both roles require childcare experience and certifications like CPR, but their work hours and living arrangements differ significantly.

About Our Family

We are a family on the cusp of the empty nest stage, with our three daughters heading off to various colleges and beginning exciting new chapters of their lives. Our home is a blend of warmth, activity, travel, and transition, as both of us periodically work from home and enjoy occasional travel throughout the year.

We live in a historic home on Indianapolis' north side that is full of character, charm, and the thoughtful upkeep that naturally comes with an older property. Day-to-day life involves coordinating with trusted vendors, staying ahead of household maintenance and projects, and ensuring everything runs smoothly and calmly behind the scenes.

Our household also includes a friendly golden retriever and two cats, who are very much part of the family. Above all, we value privacy, discretion, positivity, and a peaceful home environment that feels organized, welcoming, and well cared for. We're hoping to find someone who is not only professional and detail-oriented, but also fun, friendly, upbeat, and genuinely enjoys becoming a positive presence within a family's daily rhythm.

Who You Are / What We're Looking For

Proactive problem-solver: You anticipate needs and resolve issues before they become urgent.

Independent and assertive: Comfortable taking initiative and managing tasks with minimal supervision.

Positive and lighthearted: Bring a sense of humor to your work while staying focused and professional.

Warm and personable: Friendly and kind, while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.

Clear communicator: Keep us informed, especially when we're traveling, so we always know things are on track.

Detail-oriented and thoughtful: Help free up our mental bandwidth by anticipating details and thinking through solutions on our behalf.
