Job description

Summary

Our client runs a well-established IBM i (AS/400) environment and is looking for an experienced RPG Engineer to own critical business applications end-to-end. This is a great fit for someone who wants deep ownership of a legacy-but-vital platform, rather than being one of many hands on a sprawling codebase.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design, development, testing, and maintenance of applications written in RPG for IBM i (AS/400) systems.
  • Develop and maintain new and existing applications using RPG IV, ILE RPG, and Free-form RPG.
  • Perform system analysis, design, and coding for a range of business requirements.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues in existing RPG applications.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and other developers to translate requirements into technical specifications.
  • Participate in testing and quality assurance activities to ensure application reliability and performance.
  • Document technical specifications, program code, and system processes.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience as an RPG Developer or Engineer.
  • Strong proficiency in RPG IV, ILE RPG, and Free-form RPG.
  • Experience with DB2/400, SQL, and other IBM i native databases.
  • Familiarity with modern development tools and methodologies on the IBM i platform.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.
