Job description

Several Shifts Available!!

Our agency is seeking new staff for Supportive Living Services. This is not a caregiver position, it’s a supportive position that allows a single young adult with developmental disabilities to live in their own home with the necessary support required to maintain independence. The client is at the helm and directs their own life. SLS maintains safety, support and prompting when necessary and provides direct independent living skill instruction and modeling.

Staff work 1:1 with the client who is a 20 year old male, living independently in his own home. He is autistic, verbal, has a fantastic sense of humor and is self-directed. The ideal candidates must have experience working in this population, have a clean background, clean driving record and be willing to submit to drug-screen and live-scan. Qualified candidates must have at least 6 months experience working in ABA or similar crisis reduction model. 

Full time:

1). 3-11pm Wednesday -Saturday

2). 11pm-8:00am (overnight) not wake staff Wednesday-Saturday

3). Sunday-Tuesday 3-11pm

4). Sunday-Tuesday 11pm-8am (overnight, not wake)

Part time:

1) Saturday 8-3pm

2) Sunday 8-3pm

On-call

All shifts

Pay range $12-$18 depending on experience. Shift differential for pm. Noc shift is not a full wake staff. A private bed and bedroom provided for staff use on shift. This is not live in. Benefits are included for full time staff. Salary highly depends on experience.

About the Client:  

The client is a 20 year old male who is diagnosed with Autism and impaired cognition.  He is verbal, ambulatory and has a great sense of humor.  He collects antiquities of all kinds including, Elvis memorabilia, rusty "things", sports cards, McDonalds toys, and many other things.  He has a true appreciation for music and he loves food! His favorite food is chili dogs and nachos!  He also loves shopping on Main Street, Placerville and he is somewhat iconic and well-known due to his frequency and unforgettable loving nature. 

He also thinks and reacts with impulsivity and he needs staff that can encourage him, be-friend him but also set boundaries to keep him safe.  He lives in his own house, cooks, cleans and does everything that typical adults do excepting, he does it with support of staff.  He often needs prompting, re-direction, and reward systems to stay on task.  He can become explosive when inappropriate strategies are applied to modify his behavior or when he is denied access to something he wants.  His cognitive impairments are the primary cause but boundaries are good and supporting him in his independence is the primary role in this position.  THIS IS NOT A CAREGIVER ROLE!  This role is supportive, skilled and works as the clients advocate, even if you are advocating for him to make good choices and providing a safety net to support him in his independent decision-making.  

Position requirements;

SLS is a person-centered program and the adult (20 years) is at the helm of his home and services. Under Title 17, clients utilizing SLS (Supportive Living Services) have free choice to make decisions about the way they live. Staff are not there to make decisions for clients except where safety could be compromised. Encouraging choices is good, but staff opinions should never over-shadow the clients desire to be at the helm of his independence. Staff provide encouragement, support and prompting when needed. This is a mandated position therefore it is staffed 24/7. 

CANDIDATES MUST HAVE BEHAVIOR SUPPORT OR CRISIS REDUCTION EXPERIENCE. 6 MOS MIN.

What SLS is NOT
• It is NOT a group home

How SLS Is Funded
Funded by: Regional Center (Lanterman Act)
Client pays nothing.
SLS agencies bill hourly for staff time and a small amount for management/administration.
