What are the typical working hours and expectations for live-in nannies?

Live-in nannies usually have more flexible schedules than live-out nannies, often covering early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends depending on the family's needs. While you generally have room and board provided, it's common for families to outline defined 'on-duty' hours, along with agreed-upon time off for rest and personal activities. Responsibilities can range from supervising children's daily routines, assisting with homework, meal preparation, to light housekeeping related to the children. Open communication with your employer about duties and boundaries is key to maintaining a healthy work-life balance in this role.

How much to pay a live-in nanny per week?

The weekly pay for a live-in nanny typically ranges from $300 to $800, depending on factors such as experience, responsibilities, location, and whether room and board are included. Nannies with specialized skills or certifications may command higher wages, and pay rates often reflect the local cost of living and industry standards.

What is a Live In Nanny job?

A Live-In Nanny is a childcare provider who resides with the family they work for, offering full-time support in caring for children. Their responsibilities typically include feeding, bathing, engaging in educational activities, and assisting with household tasks related to the children. This arrangement often provides more flexibility for parents, as the nanny is available for early mornings, evenings, or emergencies. In exchange for their services, live-in nannies usually receive room and board in addition to a salary. The specific duties and expectations depend on the family's needs and the nanny's contract.

How does a live-in nanny get paid?

A live-in nanny is typically paid through a regular salary, often on a weekly or biweekly basis, and may receive additional benefits such as room and board. Payments are usually documented via employment agreements, and nannies may also be responsible for paying taxes on their income depending on local laws.

Is live-in nanny cheaper than live-out?

Live-in nannies are often less expensive on a weekly basis because they do not require daily commuting and may receive room and board as part of their compensation. However, overall costs can vary depending on the nanny's salary, benefits, and the employer's expenses for housing and meals, making the total cost comparable or higher in some cases. Employers should consider these factors when choosing between live-in and live-out arrangements.

How much do live-in nannies get?

Live-in nannies typically earn between $600 and $900 per week, depending on experience, responsibilities, and location. They often receive room and board as part of their compensation and may also get benefits such as paid time off or health insurance, especially in full-time roles requiring long hours and childcare skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Live In Nanny position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live In Nanny, you need childcare experience, basic first aid and CPR certification, and a proven ability to manage household routines. Familiarity with schedules, meal planning, and child safety protocols, as well as use of communication logs or childcare apps, is often required. Strong interpersonal skills, patience, reliability, and cultural sensitivity help build positive relationships with families. These skills ensure children's well-being, seamless household operations, and trust between nanny and employer.

About the Family & Position:

A warm, laid-back, and family-oriented household in Omaha / Elkhorn, Nebraska is seeking a nurturing and dependable full-time nanny to support their growing family as they prepare to welcome newborn twins alongside their toddler. The family values teamwork, flexibility, kindness, and creating a calm, supportive home environment centered around connection, consistency, and family life.

The mother is a stay-at-home parent and will be actively present in the home following the twins' arrival. She is seeking a collaborative nanny who is comfortable working closely alongside a parent and providing additional hands-on support throughout the day as the family transitions into life with three young children.

The family lives in a close-knit neighborhood with nearby parks, playgrounds, and community activities. They enjoy boating, grilling, outdoor family time, and maintaining a relaxed and welcoming home atmosphere.

The ideal candidate will bring a calm, easygoing personality, strong newborn and infant care experience, emotional maturity, and the ability to naturally integrate into a highly collaborative household environment. This role is best suited for someone who enjoys a team-based caregiving approach while also being confident in independent childcare responsibilities. The family is seeking a long-term placement with someone who can grow alongside them for years to come.

About the Children & Childcare Philosophy:

The family values a nurturing, flexible, and relationship-centered approach to childcare. They are seeking a caregiver who can thoughtfully balance structure with adaptability while contributing to a calm, emotionally supportive, and well-organized home environment.

In the early stages, the role will primarily focus on supporting the toddler so the mother can recover from delivery and remain closely bonded with the newborn twins. The nanny will serve as a steady, reliable presence in the toddler's daily routine while also providing occasional support as a second set of hands with the newborns when needed. This ensures the toddler continues to receive consistency, engagement, and emotional stability during the transition.

The family's 1.5-year-old daughter is bright, curious, and energetic. She is in a key developmental stage marked by growing independence and emotional expression. She enjoys books, music, imaginative play, and outdoor activities, and thrives with gentle structure, clear boundaries, and consistent routines. Like many toddlers, she experiences big emotions and benefits from a calm, patient caregiver who can provide reassurance and steady guidance through transitions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide attentive care for newborn twins and toddler throughout the day
  • Assist with infant feeding support, bottle preparation and cleaning, diapering, soothing, and nap routines
  • Collaborate closely with mother during postpartum recovery and daily household rhythm
  • Provide occasional care for all three children simultaneously during appointments or scheduling needs
  • Support toddler engagement through age-appropriate play, outings, and developmental activities
  • Maintain structured daily routines and smooth transitions throughout the day
  • Prepare healthy meals and snacks for the children
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of children's areas, toys, bottles, and laundry
  • Support light child-related household tasks integrated into daily care
  • Assist with outings as trust and routines are established
  • Potentially accompany the family on local activities such as parks, zoo trips, and neighborhood outings
  • Maintain open, collaborative communication with parents regarding routines and developmental updates

Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of infant and toddler development, with a focus on emotional attunement, secure attachment, and age-appropriate engagement. The family values a proactive, observant caregiver who can confidently step in where needed with minimal direction while staying aligned with parental preferences and household values.

As the children grow, the nanny will play an important role in maintaining routines, supporting developmental milestones, and fostering a stable and engaging environment. Responsibilities will naturally evolve to include planning enriching activities and outings, encouraging healthy independence, and contributing to a joyful, structured, and well-balanced home.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5+ years of childcare experience, with strong infant experience required
  • Prior professional nanny experience strongly preferred
  • Experience caring for multiple children highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of newborn care, infant routines, and developmental milestones
  • Comfortable working collaboratively with a stay-at-home parent
  • Reliable vehicle with valid insurance
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • CPR & First Aid certified (or willing to obtain prior to start)
  • Minimum age 21+
  • Non-smoker
  • Fully vaccinated (COVID-19 vaccination not required)
  • Comfortable around dogs (no pet care required)
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
