Residence Hall Director
We are pleased to invite applications for current and futureResidence Hall Director opportunities at Kean University. Pleasenote that these positions are filled on an as-needed basis.Qualified candidates may be contacted as openings become available,including potential future vacancies.
The Residence Hall Director (Professional Services Specialist 4) isa 12-month, live-in professional staff employee in the Office ofResidence Life. Supervised by the Managing Assistant Director andDirector of Residence Life and/or their managerial designee, theResidence Hall Director is responsible for the total operation of aresidence hall or area housing approximately 250 – 1,000 residents.Primary duties include selection, supervision, training, andevaluation of student staff including Resident Assistants (RA),Desk Assistants (DA), and Community Assistants (CA).
Residence Hall Directors provide developmental opportunities forresidents through programming, judicial intervention, andadvisement. Additional responsibilities include administrativetasks, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, supervision,enforcing University policy, discipline, participation in anon-call system, and serving on committees integral to the overalloperation of the Residence Life program. The Residence HallDirector works to create an environment conducive to academicexcellence and fosters personal development and a sense ofcommunity within the living environment.
Due to the required duties and functions of this position and theneed for accessibility in the residence halls, this positionrequires a flexible schedule including evening, weekend and holidayhours and on-campus residency which will be provided by the Officeof Residence Life. Travel is required as needed off campus and toother campus locations. This employee is considered essentialpersonnel and is critical to the functioning of the University andcontinuation of key operations and services .
Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with aBachelor’s degree and one year of professional experience inhousing and residence life or a related student affairs position isrequired. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substitutedfor the one year of required experience.
Experience with residence hall student development, facilitiesoperations and residence life programs in higher education ispreferred. Candidate must have strong organizational,communication, interpersonal, and supervisory skills; provenleadership skills; and be computer literate.
