Job Summary

The Hearing Aid Dispenser is a specialist that works independently to provide high-quality services to assist individuals with hearing impairments to include diagnostic hearing assessment, hearing instrument selection, hearing aid fitting, and the management and support of hearing aid devices.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Provide high-quality, professional services to patients with hearing impairments.
  • Select, fit, and dispense appropriate hearing aids for patients based on their individual needs with the use of discretion appropriate for the individual's culture, lifestyle, age, gender, and personal goals/desires.
  • Conduct diagnostic audiometric testing and/or other diagnostic testing to assess for hearing loss and determine candidacy for amplification.
  • Perform hearing evaluation on patients to assess their ability to detect sound and understand speech in various environments.
  • Provide patients and families with education regarding the nature of hearing loss, use and care of hearing aids, accessories, associated technology, and other assistive listening devices.
  • Provide after-care support to patients who have received hearing aids, to included but not limited to, education, self-care, and troubleshooting.
  • Provide support and counseling to patients and families experiencing hearing loss to include associated financial costs to patients for services provided and equipment purchased.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans for patients to include aural rehabilitation.
  • Maintain inventory of hearing equipment components, such as ear molds, tubing, wax filters, batteries, etc.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities to remain informed of the most current hearing aid technologies, products, treatment options, and developments in the field of audiology.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Provide oversight, training, and direction to audiology assistants and technicians as needed for completion and continuity of patient care.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Additional Requirements

Required:

Education - High School Diploma/GED Equivalent

Certification - Licensed Hearing Aid Dispenser (HAD) - South Dakota Board of Hearing Aid Dispensers and Audiologists

Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
