The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking aMaintenance Technician II to join our team

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

The Maintenance Technician IIworks independently on preventative, routine, and emergency maintenance for the building, building support systems, and membership program equipment. The Maintenance Technician II is also responsible for performing custodial and grounds-keeping tasks as necessary to maintain a clean and pleasing appearance of the building.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform preventative, routine and emergency maintenance for the building, its support systems and program equipment
  • Operate and maintain the swimming and hydrotherapy pools at functioning levels
  • Operate and maintain the heating and air conditioning systems to ensure member satisfaction
  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance repairs as needed
  • Maintain product inventory listings, Material Safety Data Sheets
  • Ensure YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor


Are you a good fit?

  • Five years' experience with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, or other specialty skill areas. Demonstrated excellent skills and the ability to work independently and provide leadership with specific tasks.
  • Vocational/Technical certifications preferred.
  • An intermediate understanding of buildings and the operation and maintenance of building systems.
  • Knowledge of safe and correct operation of the equipment, procedures, and techniques to perform the required tasks.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment. Understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment. Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.
  • Knowledge of pool maintenance and operation, safety regulations and possession of a pool operator's certification. If not in possession of one, have the ability to obtain one as soon as the training course is available.
  • Demonstrated skills in organization, time management, and coordination of workload.
  • Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).

  • Able and willing to complete online Child Abuse Prevention training on first day, and other online and in-person training as required.

Wage:$22.91 to $35.37 per hour, (Compensation is determined based on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, with most new hires starting between the minimum and midpoint of the posted wage range)

Maintenance Technician II Job Description

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician II performs work independently on preventative, routine and emergency maintenance for the building, building support systems, and membership program equipment. May plan individual projects, order supplies, and provide direction and instruction to other Maintenance Technicians or others supporting the project. Also, performs custodial and grounds keeping tasks as necessary to maintain a clean and pleasing appearance of the building. Provides a quality experience focused on YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

Perform preventative maintenance for the building, building support systems and program equipment as directed and as scheduled on the preventative maintenance schedule.

Update preventive maintenance program as needed to reflect changing maintenance needs.

Perform routine and emergency maintenance repairs as needed to minimize downtime of systems and equipment.

Operate and maintain the swimming and hydrotherapy pools at appropriate functioning levels to ensure member satisfaction and compliance with applicable state, county and city rules and regulations.

Operate and maintain the heating and air conditioning systems at appropriate functioning levels to ensure member satisfaction.

Maintain the mechanical and maintenance areas in a safe and sanitary condition at all times.

Maintain product inventory listings, Material Safety Data Sheets and other projects as directed.

Ensure YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.

Interior cleaning including, but not limited to, vacuuming carpets, cleaning windows, cleaning spills, sweeping or mopping floors, removing scuff marks from walls and floors, cleaning bathrooms and locker rooms, gum removal, dusting, odor control, and trash removal.

Operate related motorized and non-motorized equipment.

Replace soap, towels, and other supplies.

Exterior cleaning and care to include lawn and garden maintenance, exterior building, and maintenance and repair of walkways and parking lots.

Operate all equipment in a safe and proper manner. Notify supervisor of any repairs needed.

Meet performance measurement by telling the Y story and raising charitable dollars to fulfill our mission.

Assist staff leadership team in reaching campaign goals through recruiting campaigners, making personal asks and supporting branch events.

Staff will be responsible for frequent touchpoint cleaning and sanitizing in specific areas.

Embraces and actively promotes an inclusive and equitable work environment.
