Job description

Position Purpose:

The Telecom Fiber Blowing/ Cable Pulling Crew Lead oversees fiber installation, operates fiber-blowing machines, manages job site planning while also ensuring the safe and efficient installation of fiber optic cables.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a 3โ€“5-person crew on fiber pulling and blowing projects
  • Operate and oversee the use of construction equipment such as plows and mini excavators (mini x)
  • Operate fiber blowing machines (superjets, mini-jets), cable pullers, and air compressors
  • Safely prepare and plan path, conduct duct-proving air-testing to ensure clear pathways and proper lubrication of innerducts.
  • Jet and blow fiber cable through conduct
  • Interpret design prints and complete as-builts
  • Report daily production and work completed
  • Communicate with customers and team members
  • Ensure job site safety and compliance with regulations
  • Travel is required for this role

While performing the duties of this job, team members are regularly required to talk or listen. The team member is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

While performing the tasks of this job, team members may frequently be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. Team members are occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction sites. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Fiber construction work is performed outside and is subject to diverse weather conditions.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in fiber optic construction, cable installation, telecommunications, underground utility construction, or related field.
  • Previous experience leading or supervising field crews required.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct daily work activities, assign tasks, train employees, and maintain crew productivity.
  • Experience operating and overseeing construction equipment, including plows, mini excavators, cable pullers, air compressors, and fiber blowing equipment.
  • Knowledge of fiber installation methods, duct proving, air testing, cable jetting/blowing procedures, and industry safety standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, utility prints, and design plans, and complete accurate as-built documentation.
  • Strong communication, organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
  • Valid Driver's License required and acceptable driving record; CDL preferred
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required and work extended hours when necessary.
