Job Summary:

As the Fiber Splicing Technician, you will ultimately be responsible for splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing fiber optic cables. You will perform fiber optic installation, testing, documentation, and maintenance activities while supporting outside plant construction projects. As the Fiber Splicing Technician, your customers are Congruex construction teams and network partners, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through quality workmanship, safe work practices, and reliable network performance.

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):

• Perform end-of-line network testing by testing light levels at the end of fiber networks to ensure balanced signal transmission and network performance.

• Prepare fiber optic cables by ensuring cables are properly labeled and organized prior to installation.

• Build fiber cases and enclosures to protect fiber optic equipment and connections.

• Splice color-for-color fibers to ensure proper fiber connectivity.

• Organize and manage cables within enclosures to prevent tangling and damage.

• Seal and place fiber cases to protect equipment from environmental conditions.

• Read prints, splice matrices, and redline maps to understand fiber routes and assignments.

• Splice off-color fibers and multiple cables within a single enclosure.

• Route fibers between splice trays to optimize cable management and minimize signal loss.

• Splice tie points and jumper cases and connect jumper cables between enclosures.

• Rehabilitate gel-filled cases used in fiber optic networks.

• Complete redlining and documentation by updating drawings and records with changes and corrections.

• Perform case swaps and equipment audits.

• Troubleshoot fiber optic network issues affecting performance and reliability.

• Pull cable through existing duct packages or conduit manually, mechanically, or by blowing methods, and splice and activate underground and aerial fiber lines.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs.

Required Qualifications:

Education, Licensing, and Certifications

• OSHA 10 Certification.

Experience

• Experience splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing fiber optic cables.

• Experience working in outside plant telecommunications construction environments.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to perform physical labor, climb ladders and poles, and work in confined spaces.

• Ability to read blueprints, splice matrices, maps, and utility drawings.

• Ability to distinguish between different fiber colors and connections.

• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Ability to use basic math for measurements, calculations, and documentation.

• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

• Strong organizational and multitasking skills while maintaining a safe work environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with underground and aerial fiber optic construction.

• Experience interpreting splice matrices, redline maps, and network documentation.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

• Stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, climb, twist, push, pull, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods.

• Ability to climb ladders and poles and work at heights.

• Ability to work in confined spaces.

• Work performed outdoors in all weather conditions.

• Ability to maintain visual and audible awareness of crew members, vehicles, equipment, and surroundings.

• Ability to safely work around heavy equipment and machinery.

• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety boots, safety glasses, hard hat, and other required safety gear.

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
