Now Hiring: Two Resident Assistant Positions
UCC Housing is currently hiring for two Resident Assistant (RA)positions with different start timelines:
  • Position 1: Immediate opening (start as soon as filled)
  • Position 2: Summer start (June 2026)

Applicants may indicate preferred start term during the application process. Final placement will be determined based on eligibility, availability, and housing needs.
The Resident Assistant (RA) is a live-in student leadership position within Umpqua Community College Housing. RAsplay a vital role in fostering a safe, supportive, and engaged residential community by serving as peer leaders, resource connectors, and first responders to student needs.
RAs work closely with Resident Directors, the Residential Life Coordinator, and the Director of Housing to support daily residence hall operations, promote community standards, and enhance the overall student living experience. This role requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, professionalism, and a commitment to student success.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
  • Complete an average of 8 hours of in-residence activities, office work, building project work, and other duties per week
  • Assist RD and Housing Coordinator with move-in/move-out process
  • Assist with room checks throughout calendar year
  • Report housing conduct issues/incidents and report promptly on Maxient as well as to Resident Director
  • Follow and facilitate emergency protocols, be prepared to facilitate the response needed; call 911, create Incident Report, notify Director etc. if RD is not present
  • Communicate and report maintenance problems per established procedure
  • Serve as a housing team lead for residents for communal cleaning duties and engagement activities
  • Assist in a variety of other facility management projects and organizational tasks in housing
  • Be prepared to respond to resident concerns, issues, or emergencies per established procedures
  • Be aware of "suspicious persons" or those not allowed on the property and contact non-emergency professionals and College Security as needed
  • Develop and maintain on-going relationships with all Housing, Student Services, Security, Facilities, and Contractor personnel.
  • Work closely with the Resident Director and Student Services staff to implement programming in housing that fosters a sense of community and belonging
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and commitment toward teamwork and task completion
  • Initiate and maintain contact with all residents in your building
  • Be familiar with all of the Residence Hall policies and regulations
  • Respect the confidential nature of student records and communications. This includes only sharing confidential information with fellow team members when necessary and in a private setting
  • Actively intervene in and document all policy violations even when you are not on duty. Provide accurate written information about all community disruptions within 8 hours of the incident
  • Represent the Housing Department in various duties during busy periods including fall move-in and end of year move-out
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Housing Coordinator and/or Director of Student Community Services
  • Serve office hours at residence weekly as coordinated with fellow housing staff
  • Sort mail and hand out mail upon request during office hours
  • Maintain cleanliness of front entrance, both inside and outside as well as office space
  • Perform walk-throughs of internal and external areas of buildings daily
  • Document status of specific areas daily
  • Take out trash/pick up trash/straighten up areas when noticeably needed
  • Communicate with all stakeholders in a professional manner to foster mutual respect
  • Have difficult, respectful conversations with students and other housing staff as needed
  • Serve as a mentor to residents needing help with various UCC processes such as resource navigation, connecting with mental health counseling, setting up appointments with advisors, etc.
Incidental Functions:
  • Attend all required trainings and meetings scheduled by Housing Director, Housing Coordinator and Director of Student Community Housing or designee
  • Be present and on time for all staff meetings

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Moderate to heavy lifting may be required
  • Bending, gripping hands and fingers, kneeling, lifting/carrying 0-30 pounds, reaching, standing, stooping occurs regularly but not daily

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Currently enrolled UCC student
  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Be in good disciplinary standing with the College
  • Be a current student eligible to live in campus housing
  • Live on campus in assigned residential housing
  • Be able to balance RA responsibilities with academic coursework and other commitments
  • Be available for at least 6 hours per week between 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM (Monday-Friday) plus weekends and breaks as needed
  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Show emotional maturity and ability to remain calm in emergency situations
  • Respect and support individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Demonstrate reliability, responsibility, and professionalism
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate peer boundaries
  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Have a willingness to learn and uphold college policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for leadership, service, and student engagement

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Resident Assistants receive:
  • Free furnished on-campus housing (shared residential community living environment)
