Job description

The Asher House is looking for a hardworking and dependable Farm Hand to assist with maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards at our animal sanctuary. This position is primarily focused on physical labor, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for our rescued animals. This role is ideal for individuals who take pride in hands-on work and contributing to the well-being of animals through maintaining a clean and safe environment.

The Asher House is a registered nonprofit sanctuary that advocates for the welfare, protection, and dignity of all animals. Our organization provides rescue, rehabilitation, rehoming and a lifelong sanctuary for animals in need, with a commitment to end animal suffering and promote humane treatment. Through community education, advocacy, and hands-on care, we work toward a more compassionate world for animals.
Job Summary:
This role is labor-intensive, focusing on maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of the sanctuary grounds. Key duties include cleaning up after animals, removing and disposing of manure, sanitizing animal enclosures, and performing general farm maintenance. The ideal candidate will be hardworking, self-motivated, and passionate about contributing to the well-being of rescued animals through diligent manual work.

Schedule:
4 10 hour days with one weekend date (Sun-Wed or Wed-Sat) 7-5:30

Key Responsibilities:
  • Clean and remove manure from animal enclosures 4-6 hours daily.
  • Feeding, watering, and handling of farm animals.
  • Prepping feed.
  • Ensure animals have clean and safe enclosures throughout the day and keep areas well maintained and orderly.
  • Sanitize enclosures, barns, feeding areas, and other animal spaces.
  • Maintain the overall cleanliness of the farm, including pathways, storage areas, and shared spaces.
  • Maintain farm area by sweeping, picking up sticks, trimming & pulling weeds.
  • Dispose of waste safely and according to sanctuary protocols.
  • Assist with replenishing bedding, cleaning water troughs, and digging ditches.
  • Assist in loading and unloading animal supplies at the sanctuary.
  • Perform other manual labor tasks as needed to support the sanctuary's operations.
Qualifications:
  • Must be able to perform strenuous tasks, including lifting, bending, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Prior experience working on a farm or with animals is beneficial but not required; training will be provided.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially regarding cleanliness and sanitation.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Dependable and committed to completing tasks efficiently and thoroughly.
  • A valid driver's license and a driving record free of major violations are required. Final job offer is contingent upon successful review and approval of driving history.
Experience:
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience working on a farm with livestock
Minimum Requirements:
  • Able to handle outdoor work and perform outside physical work in varying weather conditions.
  • Willing and able to clean up and care for farm animals.
  • Self-motivated individual who can learn to identify and complete tasks on their own or as directed.
  • Ability to stand, crouch, bend and be on your feet for 8 hours in various terrains and conditions.
  • Ability to recognize natural animal behaviors and respond with appropriate action for safety.
  • Observe animal daily activities, eating habits, behavior and appearance for any abnormalities and report to management.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have dependable transportation.
  • Background check required.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is normally performed outside in all weather conditions.
  • Exposure to unpleasant odors and noises.
  • Possible exposure to contagious diseases.
Physical Requirements:
  • Often requires lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • Walking and/or standing for long periods.
  • Frequently work in a bent position.
  • May be required to use appropriate strength techniques to capture and restrain stronger, more active animals.
Pay: $20.00-$22.00 an hour
