Registered Nurse – Cardiac Stepdown

Location

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Full-Time | Onsite | Night Shift (12-Hour Nights, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM, 3x12)

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care on a high-acuity cardiac stepdown and stroke unit, managing a patient assignment of up to 5–6 patients per shift with potential for high turnover (78–90 patients per week unit-wide)
  • Monitor and manage cardiac patients including those with unstable angina, CHF, dysrhythmias, CVA/TIA, and pre/post procedural care for pacemaker implantation, ICD placement, cardiac catheterization, and peripheral vascular interventions
  • Initiate and titrate cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, Amiodarone, and other vasoactive medications
  • Operate and interpret telemetry monitoring and pulse oximetry; manage patients on non-rebreather masks, high-flow O2, and chronic BiPAP as indicated
  • Utilize unit systems including Pyxis, Epic (Dimensions), and SBAR communication framework
  • Participate in on-call requirements, float assignments, and required weekend and weekday scheduling obligations per unit guidelines
Required Qualifications
  • Active RN license in North Carolina or a valid Compact RN license
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in cardiac stepdown or a comparable high-acuity unit with similar patient ratios and acuity levels
  • Proficiency in IV insertion and telemetry monitoring
  • Experience with cardiac drips and PCI pre/post procedural care
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications required
  • Must be comfortable managing a 6-patient assignment in a fast-paced, high-turnover environment
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Prior travel nursing experience preferred; first-time travelers will be considered
  • Familiarity with Epic (Dimensions) electronic health records system
  • Experience caring for patients on opti-flow and BiPAP in a stepdown or intermediate care setting
