Job description

Provide competent medical interpretation for Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients, their families, medical staff, hospital personnel and visitors by:
  • Responding promptly to all interpretive requests during Community Outreach Department business hours
  • Interpreting informed consent forms for LEP patients undergoing surgical, diagnostic and other procedures, and documenting its translation in the patient's medical record
  • Assisting providers in educating LEP patients and initialing the multi-disciplinary Patient/Family/Education for when presented by the educator/provider.
  • Acting as facilitator for LEP patients and their families to ensure that their needs are incorporated into the plan of care and, if necessary, integrated with other services the patient or family is receiving.
  • Perform all clerical and operational functions in support of the Interpretive Services/Community Outreach Department

REQUIREMENTS:  High School diploma or equivalent; Medical Interpreting Certificate, Medical Interpreters Association membership preferred; medical terminology; bilingual oral and written fluency and proficiency; minimum one year of experience in medical/health interpreting, including public speaking; two years of clerical experience, including computer literacy and typing skills; two years community outreach experience
