Direct Counsel is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Litigation Legal Assistant to join a respected law firm in Chicago. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced legal support professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys being an integral part of a high-performing litigation team.

This role offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing both in-office collaboration and flexibility with remote work days.


About the Role

The Litigation Legal Assistant is a key member of the firm’s litigation team, providing essential administrative and organizational support to multiple attorneys. The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, and comfortable managing complex tasks with precision and professionalism. You’ll assist in all stages of litigation, ensuring cases move efficiently from intake through resolution.


Key Responsibilities
  • Draft, format, and proofread pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and other legal documents.

  • File legal documents electronically in state and federal courts while maintaining compliance with all deadlines and procedural requirements.

  • Coordinate communications between clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and vendors.

  • Manage attorney calendars, including court dates, depositions, hearings, and client meetings.

  • Schedule and confirm appointments with clients, witnesses, and court reporters.

  • Prepare expense reports and assist with billing and time entry processes.

  • Track deadlines and ensure timely follow-up on outstanding tasks.

  • Provide general administrative support and handle ad hoc projects as needed.


Qualifications & Skills
  • 5+ years of litigation experience, preferably supporting multiple attorneys in a mid-size or large law firm environment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Experience with legal document management systems, such as iManage, is preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong understanding of litigation procedures, court rules, and legal terminology.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of handling sensitive information with discretion.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
