The main difference between a Litigation Manager and a Litigation Paralegal lies in their responsibilities and seniority. Litigation Paralegals assist attorneys with case preparation and document management, focusing on support tasks. Both roles are essential in litigation but differ in scope and level of responsibility.
A litigation manager works on civil lawsuits for a company. They may help defend the company against civil suits, or bring cases against others on behalf of the company. They are typically, but not always, a lawyer themselves with legal experience in civil litigation. Responsibilities may include managing a team of in-house attorneys, paralegals, or legal assistants. Alternatively or additionally, the litigation manager might oversee outside legal representation. They are also consulted before business decisions to help protect the company from potential lawsuits. Job duties include managing caseloads and coordinating technological support. In large legal firms, litigation managers head the litigation department and are responsible for assigning cases and supervising work. This career typically exists in large companies or law firms. The typical education qualification is a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Many litigation managers are practicing or retired attorneys. Skills in information technology, document management systems, and trial representation are essential. Additionally, this job requires strong communication skills to interact with attorneys and staff.

Job Description:
HPE is seeking an experienced IP Litigation Attorney to join our US Litigation team, reporting directly to the Director of IP Litigation. This individual will manage and strategize IP litigation cases, primarily focused on patent disputes, within a global high-tech environment.
This position will be located in our office in Reston, VA or King of Prussia, PA.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead IP litigation from inception to resolution, collaborating with internal teams, outside counsel, and technical experts.
Coordinate efforts across global jurisdictions, including US, Germany, China, and UPC.
Communicate complex legal issues clearly to business stakeholders to inform strategic decisions.
Manage multiple cases simultaneously, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
Required Experience and Skills
J.D. with current US bar membership; Patent Bar preferred.
6+ years of successful IP litigation experience, focusing on patents in district courts, PTAB, and ITC.
Technical background (engineering or related field) is preferred.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and business acumen.
Nice-to-Have (Plus) Skills
Experience with high-tech products, especially networking.
Familiarity with international IP laws, including UPC, Germany, and China.
