Job description

 Summary

The litigation paralegal provides support for all aspects of litigation cases and matters managed by both Partners and Associates. Primary responsibilities lie in the areas of document handling, file creation and management, database management, and trial preparation including organizing materials and schedules for lawyers and clients related to litigation matters. The Litigation Paralegal works under the direct supervision of the attorneys in the specific practice area on a day-to-day basis.

Required Education & Experience

  • Completion of either of the following:
    • Bachelor's degree OR (a) Associate of Arts degree and not less than one year of in-house training as a Paralegal Assistant or Paralegal Intern, or (b) one to five years of law-related experience under the supervision of an attorney or Senior Paralegal, demonstrating a superior command of the skills necessary to be a Paralegal;
    • AND, in addition to (a) or (b), Completion of an educational program for Paralegals that has been approved by the American Bar Association ("ABA") or offered by an accredited institution which is in substantial compliance with ABA guidelines for the approval of Paralegal programs is preferred.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • 5+ years Litigation Paralegal experience.
  • Experience in federal, state, and administrative litigation preferred.
  • Relativity experience preferred, including advanced searching and data analytics.
  • Law Firm experience preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Paralegal (75%)
    • Participate in the entire life cycle of multiple cases/matters from inception to close.
    • Assist in monitoring and tracking case/matter progression.
    • Manage and organize all aspects of documents, files, and internal/external databases associated with each specific litigated case/matter.
    • Ensure that the case team has all necessary information available to them in a timely manner.
    • Maintain all physical elements of the case/matter in an organized, efficient, and accurate manner.
    • Provide both attorney(s) and client(s) with information necessary for litigation process, decision making, and review in a timely manner.
    • Conduct various document reviews, searches and factual research.
    • Draft discovery documents.
    • Manage/track document productions.
    • Prepare and organize exhibits for filing, depositions, hearings and/or trial
    • Docket court deadlines.
    • Prepare for and attend depositions, hearings, and/or trials.
    • Motion practice.
    • Court filings.
    • Anticipate attorney and client needs related to matters or cases under management.
    • Delegate effectively and as appropriate to Legal Administrative Assistants and support staff working on the case/matter.
    • Handle all communications, whether oral and written, in a prompt and professional manner ensuring that information is transferred in an accurate and thorough manner.
    • Act as a liaison among various internal departments, experts/consultants, as well as with outside vendors and/or agencies.
    • Meet billable hour requirement of 1550 per year.
  • General and Administrative (25%)
  • Time entry, scanning, e-mailing, etc.
  • Assist in Firm marketing for practice area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

This job operates in a professional office environment.
