Job description

The Law Offices of Dale K. Galipo, a Woodland Hills California civil rights law firm, is currently interviewing for a full-time entry-level position for a full time litigation assistant with at least 3-5 years with federal civil procedure experience.. Applicants should know that this civil rights law firm specializes in police misconduct cases, and in particular shooting death or excessive force resulting in serious injury cases.

As a litigation assistant, you will provide support to attorneys in all phases of litigation including:

· Provide support to attorneys in all phases of litigation, such as drafting legal documents, preparing exhibits, preparing trial binders/notebooks, and conducting legal research

· Organize and maintain case files, documents, and correspondence; organize and handle outgoing and incoming mail, scanning documents into database

· Update and maintain the firm's calendar, schedule meetings, appointments, depositions, court reporters, and other legal proceedings

· Format documents for filing in State and/or Federal Courts including preparation, prepare and E-file legal documents (State, Federal, Appellate)

· Reserve court hearings, schedule remote appearances

· Prepare/draft legal correspondence with clients, experts, and opposing counsel

· Prepare discovery shells and other pleadings

· Review, edit and proofread documents, assist in redlining and tracking document changes/revisions

· Assist in document production including Bates labeling, redacting, organizing exhibits

· Enter attorney time, prepare check requests and expense reports

· Handle client initial intake/sign up

· Obtain relevant information and documents for case build-up

· Communicate with other law offices and government offices

· Proofread and file Complaints, Summons, Motions, Ex-Parte Applications, Notices, Minor's Compromise and other legal documents

· Prepare responses to written discovery (Form and Special Interrogatories, Request for Production, Request for Admission)

· Propound discovery to opposing parties

· Prepare and serve meet and confer letters, expert designations, etc.

· Prepare, schedule and served subpoenas

· Schedule meetings, appointments and depositions

· Reserve court hearing dates, retrieve documents, and schedule remote court appearances

· Prepare trial documents such as: Joint Statement of the Case, Joint Exhibit List, Joint Witness List, Jury Instructions, Motions in Limine and Trial Binders

Other responsibilities include:

  • Organize and electronically file pleadings
  • Coordinate and schedule calendars
  • Propounding and responding to discovery, reviewing appropriate documents, and researching law
  • Draft legal documents including subpoenas, complaints, summons and discovery
  • Filing lawsuits and drafting motions
  • Assist with assembling of trial binders, exhibits, and appendices for court filings, depositions, and trials

Qualifications

  • 5+ years as Litigation Paralegal work experience
  • Must have knowledge of Federal and State filing and service procedures and court rules.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, time management skills, and strong attention to detail.

Recent Law School graduates welcome.
